TeresaBenedicta Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 I'm curious to see if any of you all have ever heard of or read Thomas Green. He has a set of three books out that deal with prayer. The first is for beginners, and I think it's called Opening to God. I was just given When the Well Runs Dry and its sequel, Drinking from a Dry Well by my spiritual director, to read as spiritual reading. Green works with the masters of prayer, Teresa and John, as well as some contemporaries. But he seems to also use a lot of his personal experience, both as a pray-er and as a spiritual director, recognizing that most souls can't just jump into the mystical doctors so easily, without doing damage to their own prayer life. Has anyone read him? What did they think?
philothea Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 I've read Drinking from a Dry Well and Weeds Among the Wheat. (The latter is about discernment.) I found the books easy to read and very forthright and practical. Not very inspiring really, but certainly good at clearing up what are generally obscure, confusing issues. Personally, I like Fr. Dubay's books on contemplative prayer better. But then I used to watch him on EWTN all the time, so I am a longtime fan.
