It's probably something diocese by diocese.
I kinda picked up on it because one priest that I've seen a lot will often read from a paper that has a bunch of headings like "Practical Implications of This Week's Reading in Everyday Life", which would be unusual if he wrote it himself. :P

That would be cool, but what I'm thinking of, I don't think was an ancient homily.
They're a tad bland for that.

Not that there's anything wrong with a slightly boring homily, of course.
