Of course we all know that one should never "pick" an order simply because of a beautiful habit or a lack-thereof plainer one, but with all the talk on VS recently about being "shallow" in regard to habits, I thought I'd go along with it...but only for good reasons. Religious in blue habits have always drawn me to them--perhaps because they remind me of Mary! If I know nothing else about an order, but they wear blue, I'm fascinated already. :) (This isn't to say other orders don't have awesome habits as well...the order I'm, God willing, entering soon wears every color farthest from colorful!) You just never know where someone will find out about the order they're supposed to...so hopefully this will at least bring some new orders to mind for some discerners out there. :kitten:

And please add any I left off, since I'm sure I didn't find them all--especially male religious orders. I don't know about many of those, since, obviously, I've never discerned with such!

Here we go...

The CMRI Sisters are not in communion with Rome. The Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Church are a group that left that community in order to be received back in communion.

I was going to name the Trinitarians, too.

Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate. I think the friars wear gray.

Mother Teresa's order wear white and blue. When I was a kid the Sisters of Charity that taught at our school wore blue and cream, at least the older nuns did. The younger ones started wearing street clothes in the early 70's.

These are beautiful "blue sisters":

Les petites soeurs de la consolation du sacre coeur et de la ste-face

Full white habits with blue mantles.

Non-cloistered contemplatives with Divine office in Latin with gregorian chant (including matins at 1 AM!), Eucharistic adoration and inspiration from Charles de Foucauld. Way cool, IMHO.

But you gotta speak French and move to France to join 'em.

Really? I had read that somewhere that some of them had come back...but I didn't realize they had changed their names. No wonder they look so similar. Thank you for clearing that up!

And thanks to everyone else for your additions! :) So many wonderful orders out there!

The awesome veil of the Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Church, which is a bit like a traditional version of the Sisters of Life veil (white with a blue border) is because the Sisters of Mary came back to Rome after the intercession of a local group of Missionaries of Charity.

I thought that was such a beautiful thing to do :) Talk about showing appreciation!

Please excuse my interrupting this nice thread, but I made my second-ever posting on here before and I see that I'm described as a "lurker," which is kind of creepy. Can someone explain how I can get a nice photo or picture as so many of you have so it can appear on the left under my name. I'm not very computer savvy. Thanks.

Your habit certainly is beautiful. (I definitely throw that in anytime I mention your order to someone. :) ). So glad to have you on here, Sister.
