perfectunion33
+J.M.J.+ perhaps phatmass is not the site for you then? we like to have fun here, and joke. don't take everything so seriously. do you realize that some or most of us live where we are the ONLY Catholics who are faithful to the Church and Her teachings (and thereby Jesus Christ), that we live amongst 'Catholics' who don't see anything wrong with birth control or abortion or they think that the Pope is just some 'old man in Rome who tries to tell us what to do'? that phatmass has become for us a refuge from the world and from battling on all fronts? we (most of us, i will not speak for all) come here yes, to be lifted up and edified, but we do not come here to be judged on our holiness by whether we wear make up or pants (yes we've had that debate before) or because we see good things in the songs and movies of this world. the point system is currently being debated - if you have a problem with it, email the webmaster, dUSt, about it. he's the one who instituted it. phatmass@gmail.com God bless you.
Lil Red, you missing the point, I don't care about fantasy points. "It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me." It is not yet time for me to rest and drop my cross, not until the day I die, then, if by His Infinite Mercy He finds me worthy to share in His Goodness, shall I rest in Him. When I read the Scriptures, Catholic Doctrine, and the Saints, I don't ever see them teach this care free attitude. Just the fact that my little two sentence statement against makeup shook the very foundations of Phatmass shows that just maybe someone, not saying you, may have an inordinate attachment to makeup. Let me ask you a serious question, and please give me a serious and honest answer. If God were to show you the truth about how very difficult it is to get to Heaven and how easy it is to go to hell, and how the many things that even Catholic-Christians do, and consider them harmless lead them into hell, what would you do? And say that God filled your soul with such a great love for Him and zeal for the salvation of souls, wouldn't you do anything to get them to turn back from their ways or would you tell them that what they do is okay even though you were given the knowledge of their damnation if they were to die in that paticular state of being? And your right, I'm starting to see that maybe Phatmass is not the place for me or evangelization, I had much more success on myspace, even though it is filled with so many more evils. But, please don't forget that our Holy Father in Rome is asking for members of the Church to use the media to evangelize and bring others closer to Christ, do not think that I enjoy using the media in anyway. And to answer some of the questions about men cutting their hair or using deodorant, I do the bare minimum. In fact if you seen me, you would think I looked like a modern day John the Baptist. The only reason why I even take care of myself in anyway, is because of obedience and charity to others, I hate having to waste time to take showers and all that stuff. No, I don't think that all are called to follow and serve Christ in such a unique and radical way as me, but when I preach or teach I will not water down the message in anyway whatsoever, just so as to please the flesh of man, I seek to please my Father in Heaven and work for the salvation of souls. There's something about me you must know, before my conversion to Christ I was tightly caught in the clutches of Satan, I was in complete darkness and submerged in mortal sin. I have seen and lived in the darkness of hell in this life, I have battled and sometimes still do with Satan spiritually and physically, I know his time is short and he is pissed and will do anything to cause souls to fall. So, please try to look at things from my perspective, "those who are given much, are expected much", I would be willing to exchange all my limbs for at least one soul to return to Christ. Anyway before I reveal my soul on phatmass, for I have already said way too much, I just want you and all the people on here to know that I really truly do love you, I would do anything for you insofar as it brings you closer to Him, that we may all rejoice together as we gaze upon the most glorious Beatific Vision of our great God. perfectunion33
Christ Says: "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is theKingdom of Heaven [Matthew 5:3] All worldly television movies and series or anime is sinful, thesethings lead no to God but toward the world and the world pass away, your conscience testifies to this as well. You will also be tempted bythe sensual characters and scenes of impurity composed by the devil tomake the world lovers of pleasures and lovers of lust. If you want toreach the virtue of chastity, you must flee from what will give birthto impure thoughts and make you lust. You must not watch what can temptyou or drag you towards this world and its empty love. Christian films however that is edifying to the soul and drags your thought to God can be good and edifying. How many times have you not realized whilst doing somethingworldly, that a kind of fire is starting to burn within you? How manytimes has this not happened whilst watching a film, or anime, orplaying a video game or doing something other worldly which you maybeshouldn't do? This fire is strange fire and is not from God but fromthe world and the devil. Those whom offer up strange fire before theLord will perish. Leviticus 10:1-2 " 1. And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incensethereon, and offered strange fire before the LORD, which he commandedthem not. 2 And there went out fire from the LORD, and devoured them, and they died before the LORD." I see that you are being falsely persecuted for the Truth, I also recognize that the Lord is using you as an instrument to wake up souls from their spiritual slumber, so that they may see and know that there is a war going on between God Not only will worldly movies and series and video games make youcold in the love of God since God is not of this world, it will alsomake God feel less important for you, since you more strive for theworldly enjoyments, and after watching something worldly or after youhave played video games, you might even feel ashamed of God and tospeak of God, and even the thought of God may make you feel awkward. This is justice, since you more find pleasure in what will pass, and, because you more embrace sin and more care of your own will then tofollow God's will saving souls. For none that waste his time on earthon worldly vanities will see God! There is a reason why all saintscompletely renounce everything that was from the world. [Matthew 7:13-14] "Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate iswide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are manywho enter through it. For the gate is small and the way is narrow thatleads to life, and there are few who find it."
I see that you are being falsely persecuted for the Truth, I also recognize that the Lord is using you as an instrument to wake up souls from their spiritual slumber so that they may realize that we are engage in a war between Good and Evil. Keep in mind that our Lord Jesus Christ was persecuted, hated by many, condemned to death, and crucified during His Greatest act of Love. If only souls would realize that in every thought, word, and act they chose to eat either of the good fruit of Christ or of the evil fruit of Satan, just like Adam and Eve, they had the choice to eat from the good fruit of the tree of life, which was a symbol of Christ, or of the evil fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, which was a symbol of Satan, but they gave into temptation because it was pleasant to the senses and chose to eat of the fruit of Satan, and what happened, they lost their glory and original state of grace and innocense. It is no different today as it was then, when a person chooses to give into temptation because it pleases them, for an example to watch a bad movie, they have chosen to eat of the fruit of Satan and lose grace with God. I want you to know that I'm all with you brother, do not let the persecutions discourage you in anyway from the mission God has entrusted to you. The disciple is not greater than his master, but it is fitting that he become like his master. If they persecute you, hate you, and say all that is evil about because of Jesus's sake, know that the Kingdom of God is yours. I will unite with you in this battle against the spirit of the world and modernism, let me know if I can assist you in anyway. Your brother in Christ, Michael
scardella
Neither have you yet fully understood, or maybe I have expressed my self poorly. Lord of the Rings are definitively evil. Wizardry and magic, superpowers and fighting, this is just like with anime or other evil worldly movies and series, but worse still, since Lord of the Rings has a LOT of Catholic symbolism, its disguise itself in wolfs clothing, making people think, that just because its has catholic symbolism, that it would be right or even good for ones soul. Don't be deceived, satan is the prince of this world, and nothing more deceived and brainwashes people then evil media and video games and the worldly school system. Worldly moviesand series are not only dangerous from what it contains, but more sofrom what it produce in the soul. Lord of the rings is spiritual poison for the soul, it does not drag your mind toward Godly things but only toward the world. I can promise you that the books Saint Theresa was reading delighting in, was nothing even the least in comparison of the fantasy and evil of Lord of the rings.
I have to heartily disagree with this. LOTR is an amazingly Catholic book (I'll leave it to the devotees to judge the movies) filled with amazingly Catholic insights into life and the human person. Tolkien was a devoted Catholic and an amazing author, and it shows through in this masterpiece of modern literature. BTW regarding this topic, I'd quote 1 Cor 13:11
When I was a child, I used to talk as a child, think as a child, reason as a child; when I became a man, I put aside childish things.
I think this has different "levels" so to speak. As you grow in your union with God, you move from spiritual milk towards spiritual steak. Things that are appropriate at one level are not as appropriate at another. I'd tend to label things with one of three labels: bad/evil/sinful/worldly/etc., objectively neutral stuff and spiritually good things. Objectively neutral would include "popcorn flicks", most if not all (acceptable) video games, non-spiritual hobbies, etc. As you grow in your walk with God, you require more spiritually good things and fewer neutral stuff. The neutral stuff is only problematic when it gets in the way of spiritually good things or obligations.
+J.M.J.+ really? i don't see it as a care free attitude, i see it as joy. and you've never seen Scripture, Doctrine or Saints talk about joy? i think you missed a lot of reading in the Bible then. Envoy Magazine has a great article about the joy we should have as Catholics - it attracts people to the Faith! Here it is: http://www.envoymagazine.com/backissues/4.6/soulfoodtogo.htm
It’s important for evangelists and apologists to have a good sense of humor and a sharp wit. When evangelizing, people more easily remember things said with some humor. After all, we’re the only creatures God made in this world who can laugh. So humor must be an important aspect of what it means to be human.
as for what is sinful for me, (as makeup is morally neutral, so i would argue are some books, movies, and music) that is between myself and my confessor. i agree with scardella:
As you grow in your walk with God, you require more spiritually good things and fewer neutral stuff.
perhaps you are at a point where you are eating a lot of spiritual meat (so to speak). that is good for you. but for those who are not eating spiritual meat yet, it is unfair to impose your standards of holiness on them, where clearly they are not. i'll refer you to this post, where Bishop Allen H. Vigneron talks about handling disagreement as a Christian. one of them is this: 3. The Rule of Legitimate Freedom: “What the Church allows is not to be disallowed.” This rule means that in situations where the Church says that a variety of views or opinions is legitimate, I should not impose my option as a mandate on others. For example: we can receive Holy Communion in the hand or on the tongue. Either one is acceptable.
