StColette Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 for Being Too Fat Nothing brings a smile to an adult's face quicker than the sight of a happy, chubby baby. But the sight of 4-month-old Alex Lange, who measures 25-inches long and weighs 17 pounds, is bringing a frown to the hypothetical face of insurance company Rocky Mountain Health Plans, The Denver Post reported on its Web site Monday. Underwriters, the people who are in charge of assessing risk for insurance companies, have decided that baby Alex's pre-existing condition — obesity — makes him a high-risk patient and have denied him coverage. more Here
Lil Red Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 +J.M.J.+ my baby was 20 lbs at 4 months. and my husband and i (especially hubby) are fit people - not obese.
Nihil Obstat Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 Isn't overweight pretty much considered a good thing at that age? I know I was pretty large after a few months, which was good, because I think I was a bit premature and small at first.
Yeah, I was huge both when I was born and up until I started crawling and walking it all off. I was 10 lbs even at birth and around 19 at 4 months.
Sojourner Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 So do they have a baby diet they'd recommend?
CatherineM Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 I was barely 6 pounds at that age. You can't tell what a kid is going to be based on that age.
lol The parents laughed and said they'll be sure to give him Slimfast when he starts eating solids.
loveletslive Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 i watched a video about that and that little boy is just adorable!! so will his parents be able to get him insurance once he "thins" out?
Sojourner Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009
lol They parents laughed and said they'll be sure to give him Slimfast when he starts eating solids.
Yeah I love how the insurance dude was like "You have to draw a line somewhere." That's crazy.
StColette Posted October 12, 2009 Author Posted October 12, 2009
i watched a video about that and that little boy is just adorable!! so will his parents be able to get him insurance once he "thins" out?
Well, he'll probably have a pre-existing waiting period even after he "thins" out. Once you've been labeled with a pre-existing condition its a pain to get an insurance company to insure you or insure you right away without having to go through a waiting period which sometimes can be an entire year before you'll actually be covered.
StColette Posted October 12, 2009 Author Posted October 12, 2009 Maybe they should buy him one of these

cmotherofpirl Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 The hysterical part is that the baby is breastfed, its not like they are filling him with empty calories !!!!!!!!!! They are totally and unequivocally idiots.
missionseeker Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 My brothers were all more than 10lbs when they were born. I guess they were born with a pre-existing condition. They are now tall and skinny... This is crazy
InHisLove726 Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009
Maybe they should buy him one of these
I can't believe they make treadmills for kids. Maybe they should get him a trampoline, too.

CatherineM Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 I saw this really cool stroller a couple of weeks ago on the bus. This picture is sort of like the one I saw, but it was kind of a stroller with a big wheel on it, and the kid was just pedaling like crazy. One of the things I noticed all these years of riding the bus, is that kids are in strollers for their mom's convenience way past the age when I was walking everywhere. I understand why they have the kid in the strollers. I'd be cautious about having them walking around getting on and off buses in heavy traffic. The strollers are safer, but they don't get exercise. I would definitely buy one of these if I had a kid that age now.
Archaeology cat Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 I saw this on a friend's FB page. How ridiculous! He's completely breastfed, and it seems that they're feeding on demand, which many medical associations recommend. It's not like he's in the 99th percentile for weight and the 10th for length, so there shouldn't be a problem.
StColette Posted October 13, 2009 Author Posted October 13, 2009 I'm surprised Aaron wasn't denied since he's below the 10th percentile. I mean if they're going to deny a baby for being too fat why not for being too tiny. Aaron eats like a horse lol so I'm surprised he doesn't weigh more.
Varg Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 And then you complain when someone tries to reform the health system? I just don't get you people...
