anybody else have a problem with theirs?

Occasionally. I think it's part of being human.

Yes and no.

I actually feel good about the way I look for the first time in my life (I was just talking with my mum about this), which is ironic, considering that I'm going to wear stuff that's completely figure-hiding.

I don't like the way I am much of the time, though. Exam time isn't a good time for people with mind-numbing, limb-paralysing test anxiety. I haven't felt very capable lately.

I don't know.

As long as I don't go outside, interact with anybody, or think about it much, I can be at peace with the fact that I am an entirely worthless failure.

Even if I'm almost twenty now, I still have weeks/days where I really hate the way I look. I don't like admitting this because I like to think I'm independent, but it took Phil telling me that he thinks I'm pretty/beautiful/whatever before I actually started seeing it. We shouldn't need other people to make us feel good about ourselves, but for some people, it makes a world of difference.

I think heavenseeker is a dude. ;)

I have issues from time to time. Sometimes it has to do with how I look, sometimes with what I'm doing/who I am. Right now, for example, I'm having some issues because I'm done with school, going to be a mom, don't have a job, am learning how to be a wife, etc. It's just a lot of transition all at once, and that leaves me feeling less than grounded.

I used to be much more self-conscious, but getting older has helped. And I can't underestimate the impact of my relationship with my husband. He loves me very, very well, and I see myself differently because of him. Actually I think it's not that I think about myself more or differently, necessarily, but that I'm outside my own head. I'm less conscious of my shortcomings because of him.

I hope this doesn't sound creepy or weird or anything like that, but Brigid showed me a picture of you, and you're really pretty. :)

That is kind of really creepy.

But thanks... I have a hard time remembering that. A lot. Every day.

Oh Yeah. I sure didn't expect to look like this at 47. As an example, my psychiatrist asked if I had ever contemplated suicide. You can't do Prolonged Exposure Therapy for PTSD if you have ever thought about it because it's so intense and overwhelming. I told him that at my worst, I truly hated myself and my life, but never thought about suicide because I hated myself so much that I wanted to punish myself so deeply that suicide would have put me out of my misery, and I couldn't continue to punish myself that way.

I'm also not surprised that it has mainly been women. We can be incredibly hard on ourselves when it comes to our appearance. My husband can run around in a dirty shirt without a single thought, but not me.

It's not that we're hard on ourselves - we're also hard on other women. :sadwalk:

For some reason I've never been all that conscious about my looks. I mean, yeah, I have my days, but generally speaking I don't really give it any thought :idontknow:

I make up for it with my consciousness of what I say, though. I'm not much of a talker, and when I do it can take me years to forget. :pinch:
