Am I the only one who thinks its kind of tasteless to be on "Mahoney watch" counting down the days 'till he's gone? I mean this isn't a politician we're talking about here, right? I don't know. Seems sort of crass.

Crass is the new good-natured.

Our Lady of Logic is not actually that far off from Our Lady of Wisdom, and that is a real title for her. What's really nice is you could capture the meaning of both by calling her Our Lady of the Eternal Logos...which she was...

It would be tasteless if people were counting down the days to his death, but that is not what is going on. I see nothing inherently wrong with a person counting down the days to Mahony's canonical retirement. Many of my Latin Catholic friends did the same thing as Bishop Cummins retirement approached in the Oakland Diocese.

I don't mean to disrespect his office, but honestly he has done a lot that has scandalized me.
I won't be sorry when he is replaced.

To me this is a GORGEOUS picture!!! Totally changes my impression of the Cathedral! It reminds me of a Carthusian monastery in its simplicity... never thought I would say that about the "Taj Mahoney"!!!

Yes. From the back that throne looks more like a guillotine. When the Muslims take over L.A., they won't have much work to do to convert the place for their use.

Yeah, I take seriously the dogma of Nicea II.

The LA cathedral looks like a BART station, not a Church.

Iconography, made according to the tradition of the Holy Fathers, is integral to liturgical worship.

The Google books link below helps to explain - in a very simple manner - the theology of icons and their importance in Christian worship:

Perhaps under some circumstances and perhaps even in this one. But keep in mind this man is complicit in the abuse of children and might be the most harmful bishop in living memory in regard to catechesis and liturgy. Let us pray for him and speak only charity.

Well I think the outside is definitely ugly. But I don't think there is one style that has to be used for it to be a church. I have seen Catholic churches made out of old barns and they were legit. Probably the kids who grow up around the Cathedral will think it looks like a church :bigthink: For the Los Angeles-ites (or whatever you call them) it seems to be an effective place of worship although it still makes me mad what they did to St. Vibiana!

That one in particular is breath-taking.
