The Holy Virgin standing upon the crescent moon is not a problem, but the cathedral's very nontraditional depiction of her, which makes her look like a small boy, is quite strange. What's really nice is you could capture the meaning of both by calling her Our Lady of the Eternal Logos...which she was...
Ephrem Augustine
American Papist is going with a story that Cardinal Mahoney in LA is about to receive a "coadjutor bishop" who will succeed Mahoney when he retires. I have to say that I hope this does happen soon. Take a look at this picture: http://www.catholicvoteaction.org/americanpapist/index.php?p=680 What a throne! And the crucifix seems in the background and off to the side. At least that is the effect of the photo on me. So what does a "coadjutor bishop" do? Is this similar to what happened to Hunthausen in Seattle? S.
The Bishops chair is hardly in the center of the Cathedral. I have been there several times. I guess I might be considered a freak or madman, but I go there a couple times a year and always feel inspired. Not to speak anything in defense of above mentioned archbishop. CatherineM
At least there are kneelers. Many new churches are being built without them. Gotta love the pipes though. I'll bet those can boom.
King's Rook's Pawn
I don't think the interior would look so horrible if there was some tasteful color. I find they're generally not as bad with interiors (though that's not saying much). But why do modern architects love beige so much? Lilllabettt
Am I the only one who thinks its kind of tasteless to be on "Mahoney watch" counting down the days 'till he's gone? I mean this isn't a politician we're talking about here, right? I don't know. Seems sort of crass.
