University Student Protests "our Lord" On Diplomas

Um, 'Year of Our Lord', while it has Christian roots, has become a commonly accepted term, whether you're Christian or not. That's like saying you shouldn't put a white cross as a memorial on a highway because it's "too Christian" ... OH WAIT!!! Someone did complain about that ....

Ludicrous!!!

This is like those crazy people who have to put "B.C.E." (Before Common Era) on everything because "B.C." (Before Christ) is "offensively Christian." UGH!!! What has our world come to?!?!?!

If Catholics were dumb enough to go to Mohammed University and demand something similar they deserve to be shut down.

Also: Hi, can I get my haircut?

Sure, any examples of her work?

See all the people wearing scarves on their heads?

Thanks I'll try somewhere else.

Good post, but it's best not to engage.

And a diploma is NOT "a very personal thing" - it is publicly issued and in many cases is publicly displayed. If you want a "very personal diploma," you should stay home, design your own curriculum, give yourself your own tests, and issue yourself a pretty little diploma you've composed, calligraphed, signed, gilded yourself.

My diploma isn't in calligraphy. :( It's not even in a fancy font.

Don't put a year on at all, since the counting of years correlates with the birth of Christ... Don't put a month or day because we all know those are named after Roman and Norse gods...

Just give them a nice diploma that says, "You graduated" (That will leave lots of room for them to personalize it themselves.)

Yeah. Just give them a blank piece of paper and let them "personalize" it.

Nihil Obstat

I'm surprised that someone who feels so strongly about this issue was willing to set foot inside an institution named "Trinity".
Doesn't get much more exclusionary than that. <_<

God Conquers

I would always write BCE and CE in my history papers, but made the acronyms stand for Before Christian Era and Christian Era early in the paper.

Since about grade nine now, teachers have in general been telling me to use CE and BCE........ thus far I've never complied. I don't plan on doing so.

The removal of the words "Our Lord" from a Diploma is an attack on religion in the public square.

In my opinion, public religious expression should be encouraged as much as reasonably possible.

that means women who want to wear an article of religious clothing to work should not be discriminated against.

you know, in France its against the law to wear anything religious in public school. Cross, yarmulke, hijab. Nuns cannot go to public universities. Habits and roman collars are illegal, although that law is rarely enforced.

My Islam professor always lists two sets of dates ... one for the time since Christ and one for the time since Mohammad.

So no one should complain that a hair stylist wants to wear the hijab on the job.

The hijab can be so lovely. Too bad it is seen as an exclusively Muslim thing by ppl.

Anyway, I think they can be uber priddy. Sometimes the ladies look like nuns or like the Blessed Mother. I wish it would catch on as a style actually. Btw, I've known a few Catholic ladies from other cultures who wore those types of things all the time.
