In my experience, yes, men carry a lot of their stuff in their pockets. Since most women's clothes don't have useable pockets, or any pockets at all, women need need some kind of purse, or purse substitute, like a backpack or briefcase.

I think that, in general, men feel less need to carry stuff than women do. But, this may change over the next generation or two. Nowadays, kids (of both genders) have backpacks almost as soon as they can walk, and after that carry briefcases, lunch boxes, tool boxes etc, or men have their wives carry their stuff for them--it's rare that it happens the other way around, except perhaps if a woman is wearing a skintight, skimpy evening dress.

Yeah. Everything in the pockets. Women wear stuff with pockets now, but I notice a lot wear tight jeans. doesn't quite look great if they use their pockets. lullz.

That, plus we don't carry much.
I always have keys, a wallet, a pocketknife/multitool, and a cell phone. That's four pockets. If I have sunglasses I hook them on a belt loop.

yeah. same. Wallet, rosary, change, keys. celly. Tissues.

Agreed. The most I ever have on me when I go out is.

A couple of plastic cards (driver's license, atm card)
A single key (for the car)
A small rosary made from a knotted cord.

No murse needed. I consider a wallet to be overkill.

I keep a miraculous medal in my pocket too, but I'm worried I'd break any rosaries that I carried around. Unfortunately I don't have any cord ones.

get a chain for the medal.

get a cord for the medal and tie enough knots in it to make a little rosary.

Tight jeans =

See, this is the problem. We have really pathetic pockets. And for clothes that could manage decent sized pockets in looser fitting clothing, well, those don't exist. :weep:

After I came back from the convent, one of the things I missed most was having HUGE pockets. I could even stuff my Christian Prayer in those pockets -- and still have room for extra rosaries, Miraculous Medals, and a pen & mini-notebook!

I despise carrying a purse/bag. :annoyed: :sadder: But it seems I pretty much carry the same things in my satchel as you carry in your pockets SMM. :) With the exception that I want certain books with me at all times. Alas...

No tight jeans? But they're (still) all the raaage!
Anywho, wow. They must have been epic pockets. If I have to carry books I use either my laptop bag which I can sling over my shoulder, or I use a small backpack.

Keys, money clip, iPod, cell phone, rosary, and a pen or two. That's it. Those easily fit in pockets.

Well, now we know what to get you for your birthday.

I forgot to mention the usefulness of shirt pockets. Sometimes I stow a mechanical pencil for scribbling stuff.

:sigh: indeed.

Alas... I still usually carry a bible (which is still lost :weep: ), sometimes my Christian Prayer, 1-2 spiritual reading books, chapel veil, Rosary, pens, eyedrops and an inhaler and a pillbox, wallet (which is massive... I'm a waitress, so all of my money is in one dollar bills and they add up. ), keys, cell phone, . I swear, I'm not a Dominican, though, with all of the books! Now, I'm leaning towards not bringing my Christian Prayer and keeping my missal with me instead, since I've been praying the EF office lately... although I don't want to put my antiphonale in my bag, it would destroy it I'm sure. My bag has been called a Chapel-in-a-Bag on more than one occasion.

I go through handbags way too quickly, because I stuff too much stuff in them. It gets too heavy. The strap on the one I have now just gave way. :sadwalk: (I don't really like purses... I like satchels and handbags.)

Well, I'm pretty sure your Chapel-in-a-Bag does not contradict evangelical poverty. On, the contrary, +1 to you for wearing a chapel veil.

I usually don't carry lots of stuff around. Rosary, meds, wallet. I go to daily Mass in the forma ordinaria so then I do carry my little EF Missal with me so I can pray the prayers that got cut out of the Liturgy before Mass begins. Sometimes even the Confiteor is omitted here so I guess I have to compensate it by myself.

Pax Domini,
Ben

 I am like your twin. I have a purse that is more like a large hobo bag type. It is fully equipped at all times to do battle. The bag has a front snap pocket that is large enough for small books, so I usually carry a New Testament/Psalms and a small Prayer Book in there, along with two tiny vials, one with holy water and one with relic holy oil. I keep my chapel veil and a handful of my special holy cards inside the bag, particularly St. Michael, the Infant of Prague, the Holy Family, the Sacred Heart, and Our Lady of Grace. I also have a copy of St. Anthony's Brief that stays with the holy cards. I keep my Rosary in my pocket at all times, but I keep it in a small pouch so it doesn't get mangled. (I got my Rosary from those schismatic Carmelites in Colorado and man, is it strong.) Inside the pouch with my Rosary I have a third class relic of the Sancta Camisa, and a second class relic of Padre Pio, which I particularly value. I also always wear a small cross and Miraculous Medal on my neck.

Needless to say, I could literally beat the Hell out of someone with my purse. There's enough blessed items in there to send demons scurrying. I never leave home unarmed. ;)
