Tens-of-thousands of documents were dumped last night by wikileaks, pretty much insuring that the war, and lack of Obama's promised transparency, will be the topic of conversation for the next weeks. Just in time to go into the end of the election cycle.
I think that the politicians will not seriously try and refute the papers. They can’t. And besides, they probably don’t even know what is in them. They will, however, spend the next few weeks condemning wikileaks. My prediction is this: someone within the political class using the word “terrorism.”
Of course the White House is saying that this was "irresponsible" for wikileaks to help Obama with his campaign promise.

I really don't think the call for transparency involves giving every Joe access to state secrets and classified documents. The key issue is, should these documents have been classified in the first place? Maybe not. Although, from what I have read (and I have not read all 10,000 documents) there doesn't seem to be much that is interesting or scandalous there. We suspect Pakistan of helping the insurgency? I thought it was common knowledge that we suspected their intelligence service of being less than kosher. That's why there's always been a lot of unease about providing them with aid. Duh. It will be interesting to see, though, how the Rush Limbaughs of the world react - is this a semi-treasonous act in wartime or totally legit? It's a bit of a double-bind, similar to the oil spill- a ready-made opportunity to critique Obama's skills or lack thereof, but also involving Big Oil and the sacred cow of domestic drilling.

Hey, that is a great observation.

The left isn't going to criticize "their guy." And the right has a tendency to not like military and intelligence leaks. So neither side will condemn anyone in government.

The people who do criticize, or at least ask questions, won't be a part of the mainstream conversation because they are not supporting either the donkey or the elephant. It's like if you don't join the left or the right, your opinions are not valid.

it doesn't matter because the left doesn't read anything except daily cos and code pink. the better to ensue that their (willful) blindness to the corruption, fraud, and criminality of this administration stays intact.

They have had nothing but this on the Canadian news today. I guess some of the stuff involved Canadian troops too.

You know... the Rush Limbaughs of the world. Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, conservative media in general. The left wing has their versions too (DailyKos etc) and it is those people who do most of the talking in what counts as political discourse nowadays.

no, i didn't know, that's why i asked. thanks for explaining. but i don't see why people who have their own names are labeled with the name of someone else. do you think all conservatives should be referred to have "rush limbaughs"? i fail to see the reasoning.

The problem is that wikileaks has already destroyed any notion of its being responsible with the asinine commentary added to the video of the Apache killing insurgents and the stupid journalists hanging out with armed enemy troops. So I have no confidence that the brats that run that operation carefully checked to make sure the information they're releasing wouldn't harm our side. If this wasn't cointelpro, I hope people get locked up for this. Betraying military secrets is a serious crime.

Well, I don't have cable, but I didn't see it on either website.

Scratch that...now it's on Fox.
