I love the Sisters of Life Postulant outfits as well as the Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Church ones. Can't seem to pick. I think it's because they boh are so Marian.

I really like the jumper postulant uniforms -- they look so... "postulant"y to me. :smile3: Especially with the little veils. :nun:

All the "jumper" postulant outfits I've seen look very comfortable and easy to care for--a definite plus.

But, for me, many of them remind me a little too much of high school uniforms. While they look very cute and sweet on very young postulants, sometimes they seem a little out-of-place for postulants who have been out of high school for awhile. On the other hand, the jumpers are a reminder that, even if a new postulant is 10 years older (or more) than some of her new Sisters, both postulants are equal in religion.

I would probably worry more about this point if I had to go out into the world as the active communities do. In Carmel, it doesn't matter so much how it looks (although we all have a certain amount of vanity, I am sure) because only our sisters see us, and there are no mirrors (sometimes a wonderful feature of Carmelite lie - sometimes a pain).

I prefer a skirt and vest to the jumper (yes, Iggy - these are for young people), but I do love having a uniform - not all communities have one for their postulants. It makes like so much easier. For the same reason, I love having a veil - easy. I am sorry that some communities got rid of the cape, but once again, it had its good points and its bad ones. I think a cape with little slits on the sides for the hands to come through would be good for things like washing hands or doing some quick tasks. Otherwise, it gets in the way and has to be thrown back or taken off and put back on too many times.

Since going to Chile I have been overly obssessed with this wonderful saint. The movie is beautiful, and I love the postulant dress.

Had to post the postulant outfit for Benedictines of Mary. Cannot wait to visit them!

Just to add some variety, HERE you can see the postulant attire and the Novice habit of the Trappists in Mepkin Abbey.

I quite like veils too, but I can understand why many orders, including the one I'm joining, don't include that in their postulant uniform.

One of you commented earlier that a particular veil was 'still nun-like but obviously postulanty' or something to that effect. It is important to remember that the Canonical status of a postulant is layperson! A postulant is not a religious sister yet, even if they are trying out the life. So yeh - for the orders that don't give veils to postulants, perhaps that practice is part of ensuring that this point is understood.

Mind you, I'm very glad they have us cover our heads with a chapel veil. Its a nice way of easing into the veil.

haha i guess half the reason i like postulant outfits with veils is because i love veils and i want to wear one as soon as possible lol

and the veil even of professed sisters isn't blessed anyway, so I think by just not giving them the scapular and having them wear a different veil that the difference is understood. just my opinion. but yah i can see why some orders dont give postulants veils.

ETA what order are you joining?

I'm sure in some communities you are right that professed sisters veils aren't blessed - but in my community our veils are blessed. I really never even gave a thought to the fact that they might not be in other communities.

Sister, is each veil and habit blessed please? It made me smile at my Clothing as one set was blessed but my change came straight from the robe room!

haha... no, that is the way we do it too... but the veil is included. There is a distinct and special blessing for our crucifix, veil, and habit. The intention covers the others. I can only imagine the chaos if each habit of every person was physically present... there wouldn't be enough room for the people. I think most postulant outfits are cute! I like the SSVM Postulant outfit. Nice and simple.

Hmmmm don't know if I have ever seen a postulant pic for the Sisters of Life. Aren't they just blue vests and jumpers like the DSMMEs?

If you look around the Cleveland website, you can find a few, but most aren't very good pictures of what they wear.

It looks similar to the Rockford Poor Clares', though

I'm rather fond of the Lockport Dominicans' and the PCCs in Rockford:

And here it is real life! They did such a wonderful job trying to be true to her life in that movie. Most of it was filmed on location too, like the different homes she lived in with her family .. and the actual monastery she was in, which is now a museum .. pictures here and here and a little tour of it on youtube (not the best quality, but very neat to see!)
