I think it's important to remember that humility is not so much "thinking less of yourself" as it is "thinking of yourself less."

v8 -- where does this litany come from? I used to pray it on certain days in community (yes its a difficult one to pray ... and in my case I think He actually took me seriously).

It appears to be credited to Rafael Cardinal Merry del Val (1865-1930), Secretary of State for Pope Saint Pius X
I, too have experienced rather unexpected lessons in humility after saying this. Nothing terrible happened just that sometimes the lesson came quite quickly, such as mere hours later.

Mine well, lets just say that I got hit over the head several times

As my spiritual director has said -- sometimes we don't listen so He makes sure that we do by sending us those trials/experiences that we could have very well avoided if we had listened in the first place. Makes one grow in humility really quick. The hard way
