PhuturePriest Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012
I always gripe about the lack of presence of religious in my diocese. I figured out why I haven't seen any brothers(except for the visiting Passionist promoting Food for the Poor) I just found out that there are only 3 religious brothers in my diocese. Three, tres, drie, trois, Ï„Ïία... Our bishop is a Conventual Franciscan, if he's counted as one of the three that means there are only TWO! In contrast there are 88 religious sisters, many of whom don't wear habits, but that's for another thread another time.
You have nothing to compain about. In my Diocese, there are no Religious Brothers, one lone Sister that wears a Habit, and one Convent of Dominican Sisters that do not wear Habits except the few old ones that are still left. But as you said, that is a topic for another time...

I only know of one convent of English-speaking, habit-wearing Sisters in this area and my pastor told me to avoid them. There are some missionary Sisters from the Phillippines here, but there are only 3 of them. The only male religious order I know of is about 2 hours away from me but the friars are Polish and are monastic so they don't see people very often. That's why I'm so thankful that my pastor is bringing in more religious with the permission of the Bishop and the Mother General of the order. I can't wait to have religious in my Church!
HollyDolly Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 Mater Misericordiae, why did your pastor say stay away from the sisters ,the English speaking ones? Did he give a reason? Do you know what the community's name is? Rather odd thing to tell someone.
Because they had a scandal where one of the Sisters in the community had a relationship with a student. She was shipped back to the Motherhouse. I don't know if she is still with the community. I'd rather not give the name of the community out because I don't want to damage the community's name and it's a very small community. Camaldolese Monks are so extreme. A Franciscan Friar that I know is friends with one. He said he visited him, and he was so uninformed with the times that he didn't even know who the SSPX were, and he was thankful for it. When he told him about Cathoilic Answers Forums and all of the arguments that happened there, he closed his ears and told him to stop, and said "This is why I stopped being a lawyer and decided to live with God in silence and peace." (Or something like that). My friend said they were truly holy people, and they lived their vow of poverty to the extreme.
marigold Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 I went and looked up the Camaldolese after they were mentioned above. (My knowledge is such that I often have to, er, 'supplement' it, and YouTube is often as good as Wikipedia for getting an overview! ) And I found this lovely 3D tour of the Camaldolese hermitages.
