I looked into these men after I met one Friar (And two Sisters, in fact), but their life is too extreme for me, and I'm not crazy about the fact that I could be shipped off to Africa. However, these guys are really razzle dazzle and nice. The Friar I spoke to was very nice and patient, and one of the Sisters said one of the coolest things I've ever heard a Sister say. Basically, the Friar had these Rosaries, and since he wasn't there I asked one of the Sisters how much it costs, and they didn't know so they said any donation would do, and so I said I didn't have any money so it was okay, and the really young Sister said, "No, take it. It's okay, we're Franciscan." How razzle dazzle is that? :P

We see both the sisters and the friars and they are a very holy group. I love their charism and am inspired by the homilies. They really do place themselves in the Blessed Mother's hands and then forget about it.

One of my favorite FI stories was told to us by an FI priest who was traveling with his fellow friars on a turnpike. When they were 10 or so miles from the toll both where they had to exit, they realized they had forgotten to get money for the toll from the superior. They never carry money, so they pulled off at a rest stop and parked in the middle of the lot to pray. While they were praying, another car pulled up next to theirs and they looked over to see nuns (sisters) in the car. They got out and introduced themselves, "We're the Friars of the Immaculate." The sisters replied, "We're the Slaves of the Immaculate." I don't remember the exact words that occurred then, but it was quickly discovered that the sisters felt they were supposed to get off at the rest area and yes, their superior had given them more money then they needed, which was unusual. True story told to me by the priest in the car, about 8 or 9 years ago.

How neat is that!!!

I love the Sisters, but I agree, this video tops them all!! :punk:

But what's with Navo covering his face like that? We've seen pictures of his face before, one at least. I guess he's trying to be all hidden :ninja: .. :hehe: I can understand that :smile4:

The 'related videos' thing that comes up at the end is lethal... I watched the first video, clicked onto something else, and an hour later I was watching some Russian horror film.

:popcorn2:

Am I the only one who gets confused by the fact that there are Poor Clares of the Immaculate (only in Italy, I think) and also there are contemplative Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate and they're different?

They can organize themselves as they see fit without permission from me, of course. However this seems to be more complicated than is strictly necessary.

No you are not the only one. I once talked with an FI Friar who finds it somewhat confusing too! (not that it was a bad thing though)

But yes, they are very different. With the contemplative Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate, as I'm sure you've already read, but I will just say it again here for clarity, you start out in formation with the ordinary active/contemplative Sisters .. and then it is discerned if you are called to the wholly contemplative life. And you can be asked to return to the active/contemplative life. They are in the First Order of St. Francis and follow his Rule rather than St. Clare's (and both the PCs and FSIs take Solemn Vows - even the active/contemplative Sisters because they are in the First Order, so technically they are "Nuns" too)

The Poor Clares are in the Second Order of St. Francis, and I recently learned (and yes they are only in Italy, it is either 4 or 5 monasteries they have) most of the Poor Clares of the Immaculate/monasteries were Poor Clare monasteries already which then adopted the FI spirituality and became part of their family - this is where they originated (and I think this is the key to making sense of the confusion) Whereas the contemplative FI Sisters were not Poor Clares/wholly contemplative nuns before. They are more of a new development.

By the way, I might as well post their video here since this is an FI video thread. I love this very much!!! I think even more than the skateboard one :proud:

p.s. I learned also that it is unlikely the Poor Clares of the Immaculate will make a foundation in the US (at least not any time soon)

AHA!!!

Yes, you're right that IS the key to understanding it.

I was thinking "Ummm, who would sit down and plan things out and say 'I have a great idea! Let's have both contemplative sisters and also Poor Clares'???" but if existing Poor Clare monasteries adopted the FI distinctive spirituality, then that evolution DOES make sense.

Mystery solved.

Thanks!
