Us Nursing -- Populating New List

Gemma

Recommended Posts

I'm populating a new vocations list for the US based on nursing orders, and would appreciate some help.

With the economy being so bad, more ppl are turning to the nursing orders, but they're merging health systems and congregations with tremendous rapidity these days. Great demand; few workers. Many of the congs say their constitutions permit "clothing appropriate to the ministry" which can include a habit.

I plan another list for the teaching orders.

Blessings,
Gemma

LaPetiteSoeur

Felician Sisters
Little Servant Sisters of the I.macculate.Con.ceptio.n
Peoria Franciscans
Hawthorne Dominicans

Those are the only ones I can think of off the top of my head. There's an order in Louisiana and based there, but I can't for the life of me remember their name!

I'll research more later. I've got a major headache. :(

Little Sisters of the Poor
Institution of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Loreto sisters) (mainly teaching but I've been assured by them that they also have some nursing apostolates)

Dominican Sisters of the Immaculate Conception, they are originally from Poland and are teachers. However, both US locations have nursing homes and a lot of the sisters are nurses. They run the homes and are very faith to the Church.

It's good to know that there are still a lot of nursing orders out there.

I had no idea there were so many who did nursing!

Sisters of the Holy Family? I believe they have a hostel for coma patients. We were going to discuss sending our coma nun aspirants to them for practical experience.

Thanks for the list.

Gemma

Yes, Bon Secours is in the US. Mostly New England. I have been in touch with them. Just as I had suspected, the needs have grown, but the membership hasn't. The needs will be growing even more if the US healthcare law is actually implemented.

Loreto Sisters--you're talking about the Bar Convent sisters? The Jesuitesses of Mary Ward? Not the Sisters of Loretto known as Lorettines (although they do nursing, too, come to think of it).

Gemma

Now, I am needing "Health Care Systems".

For instance, I never knew that there was a Benedictine Health Care System in Minnesota.

Are there any orders that focus more on pediatrics? Just curious.
Perhaps those communities who run orphanages?

Or, if you go in with a pediatric nursing specialty, they would assign you to pediatrics.

Blessings,
Gemma
