marigold Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 (edited) .... Maybe.... maybe not.... ! Edit: ok to give you a clue, you can tell they're not all from the same community because the veils are different. That's all I'm giving you. Edited March 19, 2012 by marigold
Clareni Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Today I was thinking of the incredible courage it takes to be a Catholic sister in China. This nun in Henan was attacked by an armed man robbing churches in Henan.
http://i1166.photobucket.com/albums/q611/Clareni/24623SisterNiuChunqiao.jpg
These Franciscans were brutally assaulted while protesting the illegal demolition of their school. 16 of the sisters were seriously injured and the diocese was eventually forced to buy the land they already occupied from the state to prevent the destruction of the school and convent.
http://i1166.photobucket.com/albums/q611/Clareni/nuninjured-1.jpg

http://i1166.photobucket.com/albums/q611/Clareni/4855Xian.jpg
Please pray to Our Lady of Sheshan to protect the sisters and all the faithful of China
http://i1166.photobucket.com/albums/q611/Clareni/OLCHINA.jpg
Sorry abouut that last post. Obviously I am still learning how to embed images.
marigold Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Clareni, you've got the part about the Photobucket URL right. When you go to write a post, look at the rows of little buttons above the box where you type. In the second row, roughly in the middle, there's a little greenish square that when you point your mouse at it, says 'Image'. Click on it! Then paste the Photobucket URL in the space given. The pic should come up right away in your text box.
Clareni Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 (Thank you Marigold. I will try again) The suffering of the sisters of China. Weihui Diocese, Henan Province (assault by an armed robber in church). Xian, Shaanxi Province (Brutal assault on Franciscans protesting the illegal demolition of their convent and school.) Sometimes to follow God means to show incredible bravery and to suffer for the faith. Please pray to Our Lady of Sheshan, Hope of Christians, to protect the faithful.
marigold Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Those brave sisters. May God bless them! (Can you believe there are 3 Orthodox priests for the whole of China??)
Probably in Harbin, which was a Russian city in many ways before 1949 and has an Orthodox Cathedral although I don't know if it is still used as a church.
Clareni Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Eastern Rite Carmelites in Bulgaria who pray for the unity of the Catholic and Orthodox churches. Theirs is also a story of incredible suffering and heroic perseverance.

FutureCarmeliteClaire Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 I was blessed today to talk to an elderly woman who's sister entered this order at 16, before they modified the habits (they modified them while she was there), and she and I talked for quite a while about the religious life. It was wonderful! Without further adieu - The Sisters of Christian Charity!

The veil looks kind of in the shape of a heart and then the ribbon on the bottom . . . that is the Valentine's Day Edition habit.
Lil'Monster Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 To me they look like Minnie Mouse.....but that's just me
Lil'Monster Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 They don't....................I wouldn't want to wear that
AnneLine Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 (edited) That is the original habit of the Sisters of Christian Charity that IgnatiusofLoyola used to speak about so highly. According to the story of their foundress (Bl. Pauline von Mallinckrodt) was showing the new habit her community had adopted to her brother, and he playfully took his cane and smashed down the center, commenting that now his sister had a heart around her face. They community liked it so much that it became part of their habit! I have a feeling it WASN't very comfortable - and that was true of many of the beautiful old habits. I love them and I like to see some kind of habit on sisters, but I know from talking to them in the 1960's and 1970's (when I was a in elementary school and high school) that almost all of them were very grateful when some of the modifications started. I remember one of the Sisters of Perpetual Adoration (a Mexican Community that is still in San Francisco and still in full habit, but with modified headgear) told me that their original guimpe (fluted piece around the neck and chest) looked a lot like the one the nuns in the Sound of Music wore... and that the starched pleats literally wore their ears bloody.... (it's hard to see from these pictures, but you can get the idea if you think of the Sound of Music habits...) They are an excellent community, by the way: and wow -- looks like they are getting ready to launch a new website... some parts aren't ready, but it is really beautiful!!!!! : http://www.adorejesus.org/index.html This is what they are wearing now, and it seems to me they did a good job of making a practical change--a soft coif with a band and simplified scapular: Edited March 28, 2012 by AnneLine
