 Kenya twins take vows to become Carmelite nuns

The twins are now religious sisters of the Carmelite Order.

Miri Carmel was founded from Spain, hence the toque is longer.  There are two 1990 Carmel in Malaysia; Miri is one of them. 

Kenyah twins, Mary Sheila and Shirley Therese, just 25, took their Solemn Profession to be Carmelite nuns after five years of training as Novices in the Carmelite Monastery at Brighton Road, also called Jalan Temenggong Oyung Lawai Jau after the late paramount chief of the Kenyahs.

Carmelite habits seem to be quite involved! What is the significance of the shirred /gathered veil?

The gathered/shirred veils are common among Spanish Nuns since I saw the same technique on the veils of Spanish Augustinian Nuns who founded convents in Manila.  Its probably a cultural thing.
