Consecration To Mary

Recommended Posts

I finished St. Louis Marie de Montfort's work on Mary and total consecration to her, and am contemplating making it. Can anyone speak to the consecration? Why did you consecrate yourself? Is there a good reason not to? Some of my friends express tangible, intense differences in their prayer and spiritual lives post-consecration, and others have a more difficult time recollecting specific "changes." It's such a beautiful commitment.

Our entire proto-chapter did in 1988. The parish priest shook our hands afterward, and said, "Proud to know you."

The consecration deeply affected everyone. Mary is obligated to take care of you even more after doing so.

Blessings,
Gemma

I also read Montfort's True Devotion and have contemplated making the consecration for a long time. I didn't know that it affected people so intensely though! So glad I found this thread, and can't wait to hear of other's experiences.

I LOVETrue Devotion to Mary!!!!!! I made my consecration in February of 2002...... never looked back! One of the best things I did in my life by far!! I try to read TDM at least once a year. I'm also a part of the Confraternity of Mary, Queen of All Hearts! Many graces and opportunities for plenary indulgences (of course they now all below to Mary to distribute -- but that's half the fun in working for them!)

St. Louis de Montfort was a third order Dominican as well...... just thought I'd point that out.

Dominicans rock. :)

I'm so glad you posted this topic. I haven't done this yet, but I am planning to start on July 13th. (It's the next date for which the 33 day cycle will end on a solemnity)

This is a great site that has information about the consecration, prayers, and even has audio for the prayers!

Thanks, I've been looking for a website that would lay out the prayers in a portable fashion. Now I have an excuse to bring my Ipod on retreat  . I'm thinking of starting it next month so I'll be done in time to make my consecration on the next Marian feast. I think I've to start on 13th July

I have made the Total Consecration to Mary Immaculate written by St. Maximillian Kolbe. I tried to read the 33-day preparation booklet for St. Louis' version but I didn't like it that much. The way he writes is kind of over my head and the Total Consecration is much more simple and concrete. I did a 9-day Novena to the Immaculate Conception up to December 8th, 2009 (the first time I said it). The evening I said the Consecration formula was the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception and I said it right after Mass. I had previously handwritten the formula on a piece of paper and signed my name to it when I was finished reading. I have renewed it every year since on the same date, but this year I decided to make it early on the Feast of the Visitation. I also enrolled in the Militia Immaculata and received a certificate and a Miraculous Medal (a plastic one). I bought an oxidized Medal beforehand and had it blessed. It is one of my prized possessions and I wear it almost all the time.

I have noticed a huge difference in my attitude and demeanor since making my Consecration. I consider Mary my Mama and I feel I can talk to her as if she is sitting right next to me. I love and respect her SO much and I truly feel that she has brought me closer to her Son. :)

The only reason I can think of not to consecrate oneself is if you feel the need to consecrate yourself to Jesus by another formula.

Deus te Amat

The day I enter will be the fifth anniversary of my consecration. Needless to say, I'm renewing it this year. ;)

I made my Consecration in December 2010. Although I can't think of how it has made anything noticably different, I know it has definitely helped me. I'm glad I made the consecration and I highly recommend it.
An awe.some book about Total Consecration is 33 Days to Morning Glory by Fr. Michael Gaitley, MIC. I'm using this book right now and it is really good. I extremely highly recommend it.

Another good book about total consecration is The Secret of Mary Explained to Children. Although it's written for children, it's not dumbed-down at all. It's a very thorough, easy to read and understand book.

I tried to make follow Montfort's method a few years ago but found it a little over my head. Recently a fabulous book fell into my lap that has been life changing and I am making my consecration on July 2nd (Visitation in Traditional Latin Mass calendar).

The book follows Montfort, Kolbe, Mother Tersea, and JPIi, one for each week. It's called 33 Days to Morning Glory by a Marian of the Immaculate Conception priest ( his other book Consoling the Heart of Jesus is also incredible)
