franciscanheart Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012
I am willing to argue that Canedo and Hurd's Mass of Glory is objectively inappropriate for Mass, though I am not willing to do so in this thread.
Congratulations?
Nihil Obstat Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012
Congratulations?
I do not really see why you felt the need to say that.
Lil Red Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 so choirs and organists need to be skilled enough to play what we want them to, but they'd better not do it where the appropriate equipment is or when is most convenient for all choir members & the organist involved. check.
Thanks Groo. Now, I'm on my way to the "Tijuana bar" (aka Mass). BTW this particular Mass does not have a musician -- why? There's a shortage. Edited August 21, 2012 by cmariadiaz

BG45 Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 There was no Prison Mass this month due to a sort of shortage on the music end. The reason was the entire choir and cantor were on vacation that week. I was told if I wanted to jump through some hoops and hurdles and paperwork with the diocese, I could cantor it myself. I told them I'd see them in September.
I've never encountered a choir that rehearsed in the main sanctuary right up until the opening bell / introit / opening hymn. Perhaps I have simply been blessed in my experiences, but I'm willing to bet that even the most dimwitted directors know better than to clamor on right up until Mass time.
Then you'd bet wrong, because my parish does practice the entire hour before Mass until two minutes before. So yep, definitely a case of being blessed.

BG45 Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 That depends on the technicality of the edit feature I realized the latter part might sound a bit cranky, so I posted again real quick to assure it wasn't meant that way and the board auto-added it to the post. It does that within 10-20 seconds I've noticed! And yep you are! Wish our cantor, as much as I usually love her, would take a note from your all's book. Though on the issue of overworked and stressed cantors and musicians; she had to work so many Masses around Easter two years ago due to people not being able to make it that she had no voice by Vigil.
and do they have time during the week to practice, or is this pretty much their only time to practice as a group in the church? Sorry I phrased it badly, that was just a bad week. People getting sick, or being out of town to have Easter with their families, and she was left pretty much alone and really paid for it voice wise. And I'd not disagree, I'd prefer the prepared musician overall too; besides, there's so much talking before Mass there would never be absolute silence.
homeschoolmom Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012
Yep, sacrifices have to be made to have nice things like perpetual adoration.
Yes. And when the noise starts to bother me, I remind myself that the 3 am slot is open and it's probably fairly quiet then. Then I'm not so bothered at all by the noise. Â

EmilyAnn Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 My parish doesn't have so much of a problem of people talking before Mass as people talking after Mass. The doorway is quite narrow so when everyone tries to leave at once, then people trying to give back their hymnals and get the newsletter from Sister, it gets kind of clogged up. So people tend to chat as they're trying to get out of the door. It is quite frustrating, because they have coffee and stuff in the hall after Mass (I've never been) so sometimes I'm just thinking "Go have your conversation in the hall! It can wait a few minutes!"
OnlySunshine Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 (edited)
Clearly you've never been in a church choir.
Actually I've been in the one that I'm talking about and another one. Edited August 21, 2012 by MaterMisericordiae
