A Ship Without A Sail...

So here is what is striking me about this post.

You said that you feel like a ship without a sail. Obviously as a scientifically minded person you know all about chemical imbalances and depression and whatnot.

So my honest question is what draws you from feeling kind of crap, to potentially wondering about God again? I seem to remember from talking to you before that you had put a lot of thought into your choice to reject theism, so at least for a time you must have had the rational arguments more or less lined up. But I feel like those post indicates that you are not 'reasoning' yourself back towards faith. It seems like something else is pulling you to question where you are right now. What is it?

What is it about this particular period of depression or listlessness, or whatever you want to call it, that is making you reconsider faith?

Also how's the health doing? I remember you have..... colitis? IBS? Just curious because I have Crohn's. :)

I will have a detailed reply for later addressing the first part of your post but I only have a few minutes now. In regards to my health, my final diagnosis was changed to Crohn's. And i'm not doing too bad, currently!

The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things.  The good things don't always soften the bad things, but vice versa the bad things don't always spoil the good things or make them unimportant.

And you have the greatest username ever.  You're my new best friend.   :saint2:

:)

Hassan has since disappeared but you may worship me in his stead.

Yes, Master.

Humira injections every 2 weeks. I was able to get off the Imuran immune suppressant, thank goodness.

Imuran was not working for you? That is what I take, and honestly I do not even notice it. :P Literally zero side effects.

I am glad I do not need the injections of humira or methotrexate. :D I do not like needles even on the best of days.

It was working, but I was also on Humira and the doctor didn't want to have me on two immune suppressants, in order to decrease risks of other side effects.  As far as the injections, I don't mind them at all. It's about 8 seconds of my life every two weeks and I barely feel it anymore :P

Do you do the injections yourself?

Do you do the injections yourself?

Yup!

Now, in reference to your earlier post--

I'm naturally skeptical of everything. When I decided to "be" an atheist, it wasn't because I was certain there was no God and that I had clear proof—rather, I was just not convinced 100% that there was a God and so I chose to give up and just say he didn't exist.

I was capable of some semblance of happiness without any beliefs. However, I was very hard to not just give into the thought that no matter what I did in my life, good or bad, I would die and that would be the end of it, I would be put in the ground and there would be nothing more.

That being said, I honestly don't know what I believe. I'm inclined to slowly come back to what I know, within the Church. But it's gonna take a while :/

Do you think it might be fair to speculate that there is some kind of pull that goes beyond reason that is drawing you back at the moment?

I think it would be fair, yes. As I said, It started when I went to Rome. I saw all the beauty of the Churches. Monuments to the strength of faith of those of the past. I was very drawn to everything in the Eternal City. It felt…holy.

I think you left before I started coming on here but I am glad you are back! This road you are on between atheism and faith is not an easy one but well worth traveling. I speak from experience as a scientific-minded convert myself and helping others in RCIA.

Science has deepened my relationship with God.  I actually enjoy reading about what religion looks like to an atheist psychologist or anthropologist.  I read Richard Dawkins for fun a while back.
