Spikes On The Grille - Carmelite Monastery

I wonder what my family's reaction to a grille like that would be?!  That plus a great veil plus them having no knowledge of those things existing would make quite the scene.  The Carmel Im going to just has a grille which my family doesnt know about so seeing that, if they ever visit, will be interesting.

Hi Vee!

Well, you can probably show them the photo of spiked grille and nuns with faces fully covered with enclosure and ask them what they think about these scenarios?

The Last Carmelite Sisters In Pamiers, France On July 29, 2008 - Saint Therese of the Child Jesus , prioress of the Caramel pray behind the gates of the chapel - Saint Therese of the Child Jesus has been carmelite for 59 years since she entered again the convent at the age of 21 - After 360 years of presence in the episcopal city of Pamiers, the last five carmelite sisters will leave the convent this autumn - This decision is inevitable as a result of dwindling vocations - The Carmel of Pamiers was founded in 1648 by Mgr de Caulet - The Carmelite Order, created after the twelfth century, inspired the men who lived as hermits in search of God in the caves of Mount Caramel in Palestine following the prophet Elie - The Carmelite life is devoted to prayer and work - Silence and isolation are the rule - Only a short daily recreation is accorded.

Fascinating stuff!

I notice some of you  are referencing constitutions...

How did you gain access to orders' constitutions?  I would love to read these.  Are they publicly available?

they are private documents but I got them due to my research work.

there are documents available at the lisieux carmel archives website regarding customary, rule and constitutions, etc.

Interesting, looks like these spikes have been melted and bent down.

Thanks, Chiqui!

Indeed, it was bent down!  Is this one of the Carmels founded by St. Teresa herself?

Grace-Filled Centenary Celebration of St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus at Sacred Heart Monastery, Mangalore

There are several photos of the Choir Grille with spikes still on them.  Very few Carmel still has spikes on the grille.  Majority of Carmel removed them from the grille or opted for a new modern designs.
