OK. So if adult members of phatmass start private messaging younger members about sex... how do you suggest I deal with that? Ignore it? Ban the members so they can create another login and do the same thing? I'm all ears.

What part of "phorum boss" don't people understand?

I havent messaged any minors about sex so can I have my PM back?

Total IP ban and report to the FBI

And/or public flogging.  That's disgusting.

This. You're not liable for scumbags using your website to do this, but you probably actually have a legal obligation to report this stuff to the authorities if a minor is involved.

My strongest suggestion would be what I just posted in the Private Messaging turned off thread.  Turn private messaging off for those under 18.  If someone signs up for the site and says they are 18 or over, and lies then it's on the person ... unless someone tells us that they lied and then they get banned.

It's a bit overboard, but it would protect someone under 18.

And if someone over 18 gets any questionable PMs (for any reason) then they can definitely hit the report button.

I don't use it. I won't miss it.

I get your point, CMAD2006, and it may be the only solution, but as I posted as a response on that thread, it also precludes those under 18 from being able to reach out for help.  And sometimes they NEED help.  And wouldn't feel safe going to someone in 'the real world.'

And I have had a lot of that over the years on a WIDE range of topics and problems.... and I am sure I am not the only one.

Praying for the mods and dUSt.  Tough choices & decisions.  We are grateful to you.

If it is a non-gross/creepy/illegal/perverted conversation, such as Theology of the body or gynocologists are not that scary, that is one thing.

Bad stuff, I would start by removing their PM privileges.

Reporting them is not a bad idea if there is a way to report an email address.

They should be warned if not banned.

Was there a way to report an offensive PM?

Perhaps one or two of the people who feel strongly about the PM situation and have a good history here could assist in going through such PM reports?

YES.  There's a report link on the private message page.  I've used it.  It is right next to the reply button.

dUSt ... you may need a new class.

For Chummy Commoners that we know and trust but possibly shouldn't be made Church Militant (ex: we could have people on the board that are friendly non-catholics, etc).  After a person has been on for a while (6 months or so) give the mods the ability to change someone from a Chummy Commoner to this class.

There are a number of people that should be in this new class that would allow them to PM (if you include this class in the allowed group).

I wouldn't want to change the meaning of the Church Militant class, so a new class would help.

The new class can be called "Phrendly Pholk" (lol)
