KarenJoanna Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 I am thinking of a saint's name or something derived from it. I fall short though.
Ancilla Domini Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Rocco (aka Roch/Rock) - patron saint of dogs.
Luigi Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Rocco is good. St. Roch is always portrayed with a dog holding a loaf of bread in his mouth. Peter Canisius would also be good. His given + family name was Peter de Hundt, which translates as Peter of the Dog. He referred to himself by using the Latinized form of the family name (related to "canine") and has always been known since as Peter Canisius.
OnlySunshine Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Frankie after St. Francis- the patron saint of animals. ;)
OnlySunshine Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Dominic - St. Dominic's mother had a vision when she was pregnant with him of a dog running with a torch in his mouth, setting the whole world on fire with truth.
truthfinder Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Anathema (sorry! I couldn't resist) Bernard
Credo in Deum Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Rufus Tron Chillen (Saint Chillen of Aubigny) Will the dog be male or female?
CatherineM Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Hubert is popular for basset hounds because bassets and blood hounds are descended from St. Hubert's hounds.
OnlySunshine Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Lucy after the St. Lucy - patron saint of the blind. Lucy means "light." Our last dog had this name. :)
KarenJoanna Posted August 20, 2014 Author Posted August 20, 2014 A lot of great names. One that I just came up with is Rochy for St. Rocho.
dUSt Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Dogs respond well to two syllable names that contain the "k" sound and end with "y". With this in mind, Rochy would be great. You want to avoid names that sound like a command. For example, "Bosco" has a sound in it that sounds like "no". "Misfit" sounds like "sit", etc. Unless you want a confused dog or a dog you don't want to boss around I guess. My last dog's name was Benedict (Benny). Before that, Itchy. They're dead.
Credo in Deum Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 I'm going to name my next dog, Bob Barker.

Name your dog Fetch. Then tell him to sit. "Sit, Fetch!" Insanity guaranteed.
