theculturewarrior Posted June 25, 2004 Posted June 25, 2004 I am not a republican because said party betrays the interests of Christians, and especially Catholics, by promoting an agenda that is incompatible with Christian teaching, in its execution, and in its fundamental tenets. I am not a republican because I disagree with preemptive war, because I believe the death penalty is abused, and because the party has a history of compromising on pro-life issues. I am not a republican because I sympathize with the american worker in a way with which the big business interests of the GOP are at odds. I am not a republican because I have a higher calling. I am a Catholic.

I don't belong to any party, it's best to not vote according to party but vote according to the person and their personal opinions etc. But when it came to register I had to pick a party so I ended up as a registered Democrat lol So even though I usually don't vote for Democrats since a lot of them are for abortion there are some that are against it. Vote on the candidate not the party!

I am not a democrat because I disagree with terrorism, weapons of mass destruction, needless slaughter, because I believe that in the Republican party I may help to change the death penalty, because the democratic party has a history of working completely against pro-life issues, family issues, justice issues, and of biting its own tail. I am not a democrat because I sympathize with the American worker in a way with which the high tax, wait-in-line for healthcare, anti-small business interests of the Democratic party are at odds. I am not a democrat because I have a higher calling. I am a Catholic. And I am a good citizen.

We were having this big debate one night. Both of us pushing our opinions and such. He states, "See, this is why I dont vote!" (I had already known that but had forgotten.) So I looked him straight in the eye and said, " And this is why you have absolutely NO SAY as to how this country is run. Unless you get involved and vote your concience, then you shouldnt have an opinion as to what is and is not done." The arguement was over. But I still think we should have that "none of the above" choice. Then all parties can scramble and find another candidate. Yeah, I know...then we'd never have anyone in the White House. Peace. Most are not pro-life so they won't get my vote, but that doesn't necessarily mean I'm gonna vote for a "pro-life" Republican, and turn a blind eye to all the other policies I believe in as a Catholic. I'm voting for JPII in '04 ~S.

I'm always trying to be the best Christian I can, and I always vote. It's my job as a Christian in America. I vote issues first. That has led me to being a Republican. On the other hand. My Grandmother. A kind, pious, and intelligent woman, who would debate politics through the last days of her 100 years, was a staunch Democrat. I respect and love her, but she failed to see the support of Abortion as being an intregal part of the Democratic party. There are things to like about the Dems, just as there are things to like about the Repub's. We should be firm in our opinion, but not so that we are myopic or close-minded.
