I haven't heard of (presumably) diocesan priests entering an Order before. This definitely happens. They have to get permission from their bishop before pursuing entrance. Usually priests who’ve been ordained a little while from the ones I’ve seen.
Franciscan Mike Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 I was in the seminary with several guys who were ordained diocesan priests, then went into Trappist and Benedictine communities. They still need to go thru novitiate and temporary vows before final vows. Being in community was one of the biggest reasons for the switch.
Nunsuch Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 An ordained priest entered with Thomas Merton at Gethsemane in Seven-Storey Mountain. [He didn't persevere.] This is not that uncommon--for ordained priests to enter congregations. The two vocations--to ordination and to religious life--are distinct, of course.

I don't know this particular priest's journey from the secular priesthood to a monastery, but it does happen - I wouldn't say frequently, but it's not uncommon.

DameAgnes Posted October 1, 2021 Posted October 1, 2021 Christ the Bridegroom Byzantine community celebrates the life profession of two more sisters. I believe the whole community is fully professed now, and can think of only one sister who did not persevere over the past decade. https://www.facebook.com/ChristTheBridegroom/posts/4419107954791194 Ah, only just discovered that in May of 2021, the Christ the Bridegroom Byzantine monastics welcomed a new member: https://www.facebook.com/ChristTheBridegroom/photos/pcb.4028679787167348/4028661393835854 A piece on Olivia's entrance to Christ the Bridegroom, here: http://www.christthebridegroom.org/2021/06/olivias-entrance.html?fbclid=IwAR3v1ncjfdDbTlKD33D3tlp426eE4WI2JWTE2kctybyMUXz3vC_NvDxHFA8

Luigi Posted October 19, 2021 Posted October 19, 2021 At Newark Benedictine Abbey on Sunday, October 17, Brother Bruno Mello professed his temporary vows. I believe that empties out their novitiate, but it also means that all of their men in formation (three, or maybe four) are now in temporary vows. https://www.facebook.com/newarkbenedictinemonks/photos/a.634277876673844/3917985264969739/

Meritt Posted October 22, 2021 Posted October 22, 2021 Hi everyone, I haven't been on the forum in a while but I am glad to say that I am back! I am overjoyed to announce that I became a candidate for a secular institute a little over a month ago now. I was blessed to be able to go to our annual formation retreat this month and it was wonderful. I am praying this is the vocation for me. I have also become a spiritual director as one of my apostolates and hope to be of help to those discerning religious life. Peace and all good, Meritt

Luigi Posted November 10, 2021 Posted November 10, 2021 Brother Florian Rumpza, OSB will profess solemn vows at St. Benedict's abbey in Atchison, Kansas this coming December 11. St. Benedict's has been receiving one or two men per year pretty steadily for the last 10 or 15 years, at least. https://www.facebook.com/kansasmonks/photos/a.392097037535777/4452016374877136/
Luigi Posted November 10, 2021 Posted November 10, 2021 (edited) Back in September, 2 novices professed temporary vows as Benedictine monks, becoming Brothers Lazarus and Ignatius at the St. Joseph abbey in Louisiana. Saint Joseph's now has seven monks in temporary vows. Edited November 10, 2021 by Luigi
Luigi Posted November 10, 2021 Posted November 10, 2021 Back in August, Saint Bernard abbey in Alabama admitted two postulants to the novitiate. St. Bernard has had a pretty steady stream of entrances for the last couple of decades - in fact, the younger monks outnumber the older monks! https://www.facebook.com/stbernardabbey/photos/a.371916196608/10159233613801609
