“We are at war.”

The ruling Hamas militant group in the Gaza Strip carried out an unprecedented, multi-front attack on Israel at daybreak Saturday, firing thousands of rockets as dozens of Hamas fighters infiltrated the heavily fortified border in several locations by air, land and sea and catching the country off-guard on a major holiday.

Six hours after the invasion began, Hamas militants were still fighting gunbattles inside several Israeli communities

Israel is planning a counter-attack, which is understandable.  But I fear the carnage has only begun.

Pray for all those who suffer in this conflict.

Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle.

Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.

May God rebuke him we humbly pray; and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the Power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits, who prowl through the world seeking the ruin of souls.

Amen.

Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us inbattle.

I am on the side of peace - always.

But if asked to take a side between Israel or Palestine, very sorry, but my take is;

Not my fight...

"First They Came," by Martin Niemoller

First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist
Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist
Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist
Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me.

Quite familiar with that, and valid point.

So how has the last 3 or 4 wars worked out for the USA?  Comes a time when you just have to let those other guys fight it out on their own.

How many billions was sent to the Ukraine thus far?  Weapons furnished to the Ukraine somehow found their way to Hamas - of course it will never be proven but definitely suspect.  France rioters had weapons in their hands that was reported to have been supplied to Ukraine.

How much good would those billions have made at home in the US?  For securing the southern border for instance?

St. Michael's presence can be traced back to early Jewish writings, particularly in texts from the 3rd and 2nd centuries BC. In these ancient texts, he is depicted as the chief among angels and archangels, responsible for guarding and caring for Israel.

Guardian Prince of Israel
In Jewish tradition, St. Michael is often referred to as the guardian prince of Israel, a protector who stands ready to defend God's chosen people. He appears in the Book of Enoch as one of the seven archangels, alongside Uriel, Raguel, Raphael, Sariel, Gabriel, and Remiel. These archangels are described as standing before the glory of the Lord.

Defender of the Faith
St. Michael's role as a defender of faith and a warrior against evil is most vividly portrayed in the New Testament, particularly in the Book of Revelation (Revelation 12:7-12). Here, he engages in a cosmic battle against Satan, casting the adversary out of heaven and preventing him from accusing humanity before God. St. Michael's triumphant role in this battle marks a significant shift from the Old Testament to the New Testament.

Catholic means "universal." We are not meant just to care about our own nation, but about humanity--all of God's children. I hate war of all sorts. The victims of terrorism, wherever they are, are my sisters and brothers.

To assist the victims is one thing, and I support that for both sides.

But that is a long shot away from taking part in the fighting - in that context, I will not choose a side in this fight.

Precisely what I was thinking.  Well said, Nunsuch!

We need to start thinking of ourselves as the community of mankind (political incorrectness noted and ignored), not so much identity as a title related to where we live.  Jesus died for all of us.

When I think about it, war is an absolute insanity literally.  To strive to kill others...........for what!  It is for the selfsame reason: Palestinians for Palestine, Israelis for Israel - although Israel has the right and necessity to defend itself.  There is that passage in St Paul, can't think of the reference details, where a community is split by some claiming to be for this bishop, others for that bishop etc.  St Paul takes them to task asking "Are we not all for Christ?"  Doesn't take a stretch of ye olde brain too much to transfer that Lesson to country as identity.  Rather, is our identity not Christ?

At the Last Supper, Jesus prays for Unity.  Obviously, very obviously, it has great importance.  And we see in our world both in The Church and outside it, it is constantly unity that  is under attack- Satan's footprint.

Very true.

Ironically, neither side in the current war in the Middle East is for Christ.

Without constant US aid, Israel would not be the state it is today.  And when that aid is removed, it will be devastating for Israelis AND Palestinians, despite the fact that the aid has primarily benefited Israel, and often directly against Palestine.  When that aid is entirely removed, that's when all the gloves are coming off over there, on both sides.

We can pray for unity, but it must be unity in Christ and of Him.  That's why we have such problems in the Church right now; not all priests and bishops profess the Catholic faith.  And with such people there can be no unity.

I find it difficult to really understand this issue.   It seems that Egypt has a strictly enforced border with the Gaza Strip.    Is that accurate?

Citing Egyptian security officials on Friday, the Associated Press news agency said that Egypt is reinforcing its forces along the border with the besieged Gaza Strip.

The officials said that Cairo is taking ‘unprecedented measures’ to strengthen the border with Gaza and to prevent any infiltration.

This comes amid calls by Israel for Palestinians to leave Gaza, and by others to open a humanitarian corridor, so that the residents of the Strip cross the border with Egypt.
