Death Penalty

Hey everyone,

I was wondering if you were for or against the death penalty.

I am against it for the most part, because of the dignity of Human Life, and what if someone is executed unjustly, later finding out they did not commit the crime, you can't give that person back their life.

But, if you were to murder 18 people or a large amount, you confessed, or there is DNA evidence, then I feel they should get the death penalty.

What is your stance?

I'm with the Church on this. It's not intrinsically wrong, but in our modern society, the chance that we really need to resort to it is just too slim.

Besides, in court costs for necessary appeals, etc., it actually costs more to execute than it does to keep them alive!

Yes that's what I found out today. We researched it today in Ch. English 10.

I iddn't research though, I read news articles on the net. I read one especially about Kerry's response to his comments during the debate about the Cheyney family.

I am against it. The Church says the only time it can be used is when there is no other way to keep the murderer from harming society, and, of course, we can always lock him away for life, so the death penalty really isnt an option.

I am 100% in favor of the death penalty for all crimes, including, but not limited to, speeding tickets and jaywalking.

I'm against the death penalty in all forms! Even if someone has killed millions of people it is not our duty to kill him, harsh punishment yes, but death no. Death should be something left to God and not something we take into our own hands.

You take a life, you forfeit your own.

I agree with Raphael.

For my part, if I had to choose yes or no I'd have to say yes, because I don't think it's intrinically wrong. I think that it should be kept to what's necessary, though. In this country we have enough super-high security prisons to take care of those people.

I'm in agreement with Micah as well, I may not like the death penalty myself but I'll willingly submit myself to the Church and it's teachings

I am for the death penalty. I agree there are some serious ethical and moral dilemmas associated with it, but I am also a strong believer in justice.

Murderers tend to continue to murder while in prison. I'm not for the DP in all cases, in fact, I'd be against it in 95% of the cases.

If someone continues to murder after already being punished for murder, then I think that the Death Penalty can be morally applied.

Many confuse the commandment, "Thou shalt not kill," by separating it from the rest of Scripture that gives it its proper understanding.

When a prisioner who is murdered keeps murdering in prison he deserves the death penalty.

The Church is not aganist the death penalty.

Cardinal George said nothing so concetrates your mind as a sentence of death [paraphrased].

If you ask a prison guard, he will tell you high security prisons are quite dangerous places.
