I really struggle with this...but I am constantly engulfed in people drinking. I go to a party school where all i hear about on the bus and before class is people's drinking stories. Luckily, most of my friends are not drinkers.....

But I went to the Christmas party for my mom's work tonight. She works at a funeral home and the party was about 20 people at her boss's house. I babysat for the boss last night so he and his girlfriend could go out partying and they got back at like 3 and I stayed over the night and watched the kids the next morning too. He was so hung over and now he is getting plastered again tonight.

Tonight the whole party was drinking way too much except for me and my pop-pop and nana. I hate seeing my mom drink like that. I really just hate it. I drove my own car there so I didn't have to stay and I just got back. I hope she doesn't drink much more cuz she is already not herself and I really don't like the way she is when she is drunk. Uhhhh......

I'm sooo sorry. I know it's terrible.

I have a friend who only talks about smoking and drinking. She won't go to any party or anything unless there's drinking involved.

If she goes to anyone's house the question is "are we gonna drink?"

It's so sad. We need to keep these people in our prayers.

Pray for her! Also, I hope she isn't drinking and driving, that is serious jail time if she gets caught. Cops are really looking out this time of year too. God bless

I know what you are talking about andrea. Although I do go out and have a drink with the boys now and agian I refrain from getting drunk. I am a control freak, and I just never really wanted to get drunk....eh.*shrugs shoulders* not my idea of a fun time I geuss.

Your classmates will get over it, after about a year the novelty of being legal and drinking wears off. Besides I am geussing that more than likely once they settle into jobs, mortgages and marriages they will have other more importanat places to spend thier money.

I know it can be hard when someone you love goes out and gets drunk. Especially if they are a "bad drunk"....someone who either gets lewd, inappropriate, whiny, weepy or violent. Some people retain their good nature, good humor and common sense, others don't. For those that are "bad Drunks" ....well I usually inform them if they have been particularly embarrising to me when we are out. Not in a mean way.....but just to let them know that they are much nicer company sober. If it gets really bad I have to let them know that you were embarrassed to be around them like that.

good luck with it hun,

people drink because its "bad", and most of the people are underage. If they lowered or didn't have a drinking age, more than half of the people who drink now wouldn't do it as much

People drink water because the human body is ~90% water. People should drink 64 oz of fluid a day, but other doctors say that is unnecessary, depending on the foods one eats.

Oh, you're talking about alcohol? Yes, its dissapointing to hear about how much kids these days party and drink. Hmm, I suspect they do it for the thrills of it. And for cheap entertainment. Kids these days complain about how there's nothing to do. They obviously don't have an Xbox

I can't tell you why "people" drink, but I can tell you why I drink .. .

It's deliciously yummy!

There is nothing like a nice amber lagher in a pint glass with your friends at the pub . . .

There is nothing like a Crown and Coke at the end of a day . . .

There is nothing like a shot of Wild Turkey tailgating in the cold cold indiana Fall.

Ummm . . . Monks make beer because Beer is from Heaven . . .

Wine, liquor, beer . . . it's all good . . .

Drunkenness however is another issue . . .

I turn to the wisdom of an old German drinking song...

In Heaven, there is no beer -
Which is why we drink it here!
And when we're gone from here
All our friends will be drinkin' our beer!

Ok, well, it's in English, and it's obviously American, but it illustrates a point. What that point is, I'm not sure. ;)

Wait . . . are you sure there is no beer in heaven?

Posted

how many gallons of wine did they finish in Cana when they called for more?

that's my kind of party.

but yes, drunkenness is bad...however, drinking is not.

Drinking is a good. Too much drinking is a disordered good.

Drinking occasionaly is one thing, but drinking habitually is a disease. You must look at it that way, because people who drink too often and too much become physically dependant on alcohol.

Your friends will grow out of it, probably, but your mother is a different story. She is most likely caught up in the relaxation that drunkeness causes, and comes to a mind-set of alcohol=relaxation and has forgotten other, healthier ways to relax. Prayer helps a lot, but if she is a heavy drinker (there really is no quantitave number I can give you to determine if she is, because every person has different tolerances, etc.), you might consider an intervention, with her closest friends and family as well as a counselor and a priest.

The thing that will help your mother most is love and understanding. It's a tough world out there, and she has latched on to something that takes her away from the difficulty and challenges of every day life. The more you understand that and try to make her enviroment conducive to not drinking, the more chance she will have of kicking the habit.

I'm a bartender, and I see alcoholism every day I go to work. It's hard to sit idly by and watch people drink themselves to death, but I try to help and witness as much as possible. I've seen two people escape from alcoholism (the owners of the place that I work), so I know that it's possible. Good luck, and my prayers are with you!

Peace,

Tim

Hmmerz, well imma REALLIE easygoing person and i love being laid back-so if imma at a party, I'll have a few drinks just to get even more laid back. But I've never gotten drunk in my life-I think alcohol when used over normal limits can turn into something evil.

I had my first one of those at the company Christmas party Friday night.. :)

Along with my first sip of beer.. the initial taste was repulsive, but afterwards it was kinda smooth.. only had one sip, though.

Why do I drink? (and I use the term "drink" rather loosely) I'm under 21, but I want to know about alcohol before I go off to college. I want to know what it does to me before I'm at a party with loads of peer pressure.

Drinking makes me feel cool. "ooh look I'm 18 but I'm having a rum and Coke while sitting in my living room watching Lord of the Rings! I'm such a rebel!"

i really don't understand it :sadder:

why does my mom love going out and drinking so much. this afternoon she went out to lunch with her boss for their Christmas lunch. i got home from work just before 6 and she wasn't back yet, so my dad and i went out to dinner. when we came back she was laying in her recliner....i was guessing she was tired, giving her the benefit of the doubt.....something i shouldn't have done.....just before coming to the computer i stopped to use the downstairs bathroom....well....she definately drank too much because she was definately vomiting (i won't go any further).....but i had to clean some of it up....grrrrr......i don't get it, i just don't get it....she wasn't like this most of my life....mid life crisis or something, i guess....PLEASE pray for her :sadder:
