hopeful1 Posted December 28, 2004 Posted December 28, 2004 attention gamers, i'm currently thinking about getting a new game system and i'm tryinf to decide whether or not i should get a ps2 or a game cube. i grew up with nintendo from the time i was like 3 or 4 years old, so i grew up with mario and all that good stuff, and fell in love with the Zelda series when i first played Link to the Past on the SNES back when i was like 12 and been a huge fan ever since. I also love RPGs and I remember back when the N64 came out, square/enix jumped over to sony Playstation and all 3rd party developers followed suit (which also really sucked for me cuz i was a huge fan of Chrono Trigger when it came out on the SNES and found out they were making a sequel for the PS ). So PS now has all the Final Fantasy series and most of the good RPGs. at this point i'm kinda leaning towards getting a PS2 b/c i understand that it still supposed to be around for an extra year or so, as opposed to GC which i understand is supposed to be obsolete soon, you can still play PS1 games on it (that is, if i can still find them), and doubles as a dvd player (which isn't really an issue now, now that i got a dvd player for christmas). the only down side for me is that once i go PS, there's no more Zelda ( but on the other hand, i hate the way they made link look for the GC. I'm sorry but he looks like a pansy in windwaker! :angry: they made him look sooo good in Ocarina of Time! but that's me ranting ). they're also both pretty small, which wil be good when i transfer colleges. but i think what this may ultimately come down to is FF vs Zelda (&mario). But those of you who have either system, could you tell me what you think of the system/games/ ect or give me any advice? i'd appreciate it

I'm kinda just looking for something to do for fun with friends/future roommate when we aren't studying and stuff. Besides, call me overly scrupulous, but i almost feel like getting both would be a little excessive, i dunno. but i suppose it's a possibility... btw, what's GTA?
dUSt Posted December 28, 2004 Posted December 28, 2004 The cube is good for multiplayer games and has a lot of good games for younger kids too. The PS2 has the best selection and mix of kids and more mature games. The XBOX is the best system (except for the PC) but has mostly mature games. One advantage of the PS2 is the ability to play DVDs, which the cube does not have--so it's like a two for one deal. Of course, if you already have a DVD player then it's a toss-up. Get the one which has the games you prefer more.

traichuoi Posted December 28, 2004 Posted December 28, 2004 if you could, buy an xbox. but if ps2 and game cube are your choices....go for the ps2. it has "need for speed underground 2" which is my fav. game right now...that and gran turismo 3 are the only games i'm good at! go figure...i love driving and pretending i'm a racer.

My heart was set on getting the PS2, but then I asked in another forum if I should get the XBOX or PS2. Stoopid Aussies said XBOX! Stoopid Aussies! :angry: So I went out and bought the XBOX (for the second time), now I wish I had got the PS2. Why? [b]Final Fantasy[/b]. I got the 'Fable' game and though it is okay, quite frankly compared to FFVII is it cr@p!!!! That's no disrespect to 'Fable' cause it's a top game, but all the Final Fantasy games are such epics, nothing else compares. Don't worry about what we tell you to get, go with your instincts, but FFXII is coming out in a few months and expect it to be another killer! There are few decent RPG's out on XBOX, and Final Fantasy games are pretty much soley available on the PS2. XBOX's are good cause you can chip em and do all sorts of illegal and nasty things to them, but if RPG's are your thing, think about the titles, not the system. The differences between XBOX and PS2 in terms of performance and graphics are barely noticable anyway, and varies between platforms (i.e. sports are better on XBOX). As for the Gamecube, that's pretty much a flop. PS2 dude, PS2! Oh well, that's another $400 down the drain. Edited December 28, 2004 by Phazzan
