homeschoolmom Posted December 30, 2004 Posted December 30, 2004 I haven't seen one of those for a long time, but even those are irritating. If someone has a point to make, can clarify a point that is made or challenge something, they can't-- because they are not the debator. Watching others have a conversation is like watching someone sit and chat on their cell phone while you are visiting them...

crusader1234 Posted December 30, 2004 Author Posted December 30, 2004 I think that debate is for people to learn from, so naturally its different. But when people are like ____ ONLY THIS IS 4 U - it gets annoying. If there is a thread where a large group of people will post, that is fine. Most people have favourite threads - but when its all for one person its kind of silly.
homeschoolmom Posted December 30, 2004 Posted December 30, 2004
Oh, and also, you can't PM to five people at once. Some threads are only going to make sense to a few people, but if it's more than one, I don't mind. I mean, look at this thread. A newbie would feel silly because they're not going to remember these "old" events. But there's been posts by like ten different people in this thread... you can't convert that to a PM.
You can on Flyfree. I wonder if dUSt would make it so that you could pm a group at a time if it would eliminate some of the personal threads...
Noel's angel Posted December 30, 2004 Posted December 30, 2004 yeah. i think thats why dust has created the chat facitity, so as people can go and talk to their phatmass friends, without clogging up boards
Carnanc Posted December 30, 2004 Posted December 30, 2004 sometimes the one person ones may be good if they should be seen by everyone, perhaps like a prayer request or interesting story.
Noel's angel Posted December 30, 2004 Posted December 30, 2004 yeah, but if its to say something stupid, then its pointless
voiciblanche Posted December 30, 2004 Posted December 30, 2004 Well, I think all threads appeal to only a certain group of people. In the future, I'll try not address threads to one specific person (I really don't start many threads anyway) but if there's a group of people that I think will be "attracted" to it more than others... I don't see the problem. If we got rid of all threads that were "meant" for one or two groups of people... we'd have like four to five threads a day.
homeschoolmom Posted December 30, 2004 Posted December 30, 2004
sometimes the one person ones may be good if they should be seen by everyone, perhaps like a prayer request or interesting story.
Yes. that's true. But the ones on the debate table that were so and so ONLY and everyone else who ever dares to post gets yelled at and then deleted (yes, that happened to people all the time)....
crusader1234 Posted December 30, 2004 Author Posted December 30, 2004 Prayers and stories are different than "Thread for ____ because..." if a person needs a prayer, thats something everyone can take part in. If somebody has a story, thats something everyone can read. If somebody is posting "Thread for ____" and its filled with senseless trash it gets offensive to those of us who like the Faith aspect of Phatmass and those of us who have never gotten one of those threads.
Noel's angel Posted December 30, 2004 Posted December 30, 2004 (edited) that is really rude (posts being deleted) Edited December 30, 2004 by Noel's angel
voiciblanche Posted December 30, 2004 Posted December 30, 2004 And as far as stupid goes... We have had this talk before. Some people like stupid threads, some people don't. We're all going to have to live with each other and our threads, be them stupid or serious, if we want to have a better PM.
Noel's angel Posted December 30, 2004 Posted December 30, 2004 no, but if it was a thread like 'for noel's angel' and in it was something like 'BOO' then that is beyond a joke
crusader1234 Posted December 30, 2004 Author Posted December 30, 2004 I know what you mean about Debate between ___ and ___ only. I throw in my two cents and the infamous BIG RED WRITING jumps across the screen.
littleflower+JMJ Posted December 30, 2004 Posted December 30, 2004
Yes. that's true. But the ones on the debate table that were so and so ONLY and everyone else who ever dares to post gets yelled at and then deleted (yes, that happened to people all the time)....
when did someone get yelled at? and it happens all the time?
voiciblanche Posted December 30, 2004 Posted December 30, 2004 Well, I know that can get annoying, but threads like that usually die quickly. Now, if we didn't have any more personal threads, we wouldn't have a thread like that. But there's threads that five or six people enjoy that others find really stupid. But if we made those people stop posting the things they loved (this doesn't mean personal threads) just because we thought they were stupid, that wouldn't be fair.
Piccoli Fiori JMJ Posted December 30, 2004 Posted December 30, 2004 I can remember some good old times... I'm not as old as some of the "oldies" but I've been around the block a few times and I can remember quite a bit... The SHelly and Angie Show... I rememeber that and how we had 2 "regulars" on our Show... I like the good old days I miss them too... I think the lame board was a good way to get rid of the personal thread mess, but it also became over run by mad and completely senseless posts... Who knows... maybe one day the board will return to its previous grandeur!
homeschoolmom Posted December 30, 2004 Posted December 30, 2004 I don't have a problem with stupid. The time when TCW revealed he was made of candy was rather stupid, but very funny. However, it's the ones that ones that are better left to IMing that shouldn't be here... Why not have one "Random thoughts" thread rather than everyone having their own?
voiciblanche Posted December 30, 2004 Posted December 30, 2004 Well, I think forty-page threads get annoying to everyone, and that's why we have repeats of things like the random thoughts thread.
Carnanc Posted December 30, 2004 Posted December 30, 2004 as far as the chatroom goes, sometimes that doesn't work as well cause people don't have as much time to put as much thought into what they are trying to say.
