cathqat Posted January 6, 2005 Posted January 6, 2005
So I'm assuming its ok - at the discretion of the Priest/Bishop.
There's no question that you would need the permission of the Bishop (the Ordinary): "The local Ordinary can allow a marriage to be celebrated in another suitable place." The permission of a priest would not be sufficient; a priest's permission is only sufficient to have a wedding in another Catholic church or oratory. But the outdoors is normally not regarded as a "suitable place" for a wedding, in the words of the law, and most dioceses explicitly prohibit it. For more details, contact the chancery of your diocese and/or a canon lawyer.
Scofizzle Posted January 6, 2005 Posted January 6, 2005 dude my friends had mass on a campling trip we went on one time.......they made an altar that day and a priest that went with them celebrated mass on it that day...it sounded really awesome I wish I was there....
hopeful1 Posted January 6, 2005 Posted January 6, 2005 personally, i wouldn't want to get married outside. What it it rains and the wind ruins my hair? or a bird flies over my head (shudders)?
rbtobeck Posted January 6, 2005 Posted January 6, 2005 im guessing that it is possible...just not normal. When i went on a retreat this summer up in colorado, we had mass on a mountain and we surrounded this rock and it was in the shape of the altar. It was soo cool and i will always remember that.
XIX Posted January 6, 2005 Posted January 6, 2005 I wanna marry in a beautiful church. But yeah, it sounds like you have to ask permission of a priest or bishop to marry outside...works for me. Hey, it's canon law.
