Anyone here seen that movie, its a trip-he's a mutant Catholic, if I remember right, he uses the rosary at the end to save some dudes life

Hellboy is Catholic. Relics are used a talismans, even in the comicbook it's based off of.

A Catholic demon?

No offense, but last time a demon tried to help out mankind, original sin happened.

It was an okay fiction story though.

Wasn't it just his "father" that was Catholic?

Posted

oh, that movie rocked
and wasnt Hellboy born of demons but then raised by a devout Catholic?

and i noticed in the film that he did always have a rosary on his belt
i also liked the part where he gave a first class relic of a saint to his friend for protection against that creature

It's a odd concept, very odd.

i never saw that movie..

i think i will now!

The rosary was just for remembrance of his father.

I don't care if he's a pope. It was still a bad movie.

He was a priest one time, wasn't he?

Punisher lit some candles in a catholic church, so I suggest, he's catholic too, and .... VENOM also prayed in a church!

Nightcrawler is indeed Catholic.

He did become a priest in the Comics, just recently I think...

Posted

He later decides not to be a priest (I guess he was just a deacon?) because the romantic side was too tempting...

Too bad.

I think it was just that the writers didn't want to have to deal with writing the Catholic morality into comics. It would definatly challenge the PC politics that mainstream comics are caught up in.

Posted

I think that the reason that Nightcrawler didn't become a priest was because the writer at that time thought that the character was too boring and gloomy as a seminarian.

Actually come to find out, nightcrawler was being used a a tool for the Church of Humanity. He was "brainwashed" in to thinking we wanted to be a priest. He was brainwashed by a nun that had been sexually abused by a member of the hierarchy. So she had this elaborate plan to get him elected as pope and then to decree a special type of communion wafer that would disintegrate people. This way she could simulate the rapture (casue we all know that Catholics believe in the rature... ) and then show revel nightcrawler for a mutant (he looks like a demon) and accuse him of being the anti-christ so that the world would turn against the Catholic Church and destroy it...

Really dumb...

i hope that hollywood realizes that comic movies... well... 90% of them really smell of elderberries as ideas for movies... they might work in the comics but movies need something diffrent...

its all because hollywood wants to make money... so they make movies that have already been sold... harry potter, best selling book = best selling movie, lotr same thing... there hardly isnt an origional movie idea in hwood that hasnt been sold in one form or another already, be it book, or comic, videogame, song, other movie... they dont care... just look at how many sequils and remakes are out... its sad... but thats what you get from hollywood... if you want origionality theres always the indy scene...

Just because some characters are Catholic doesn't make certain movies OK to watch...

The indy movie scene is kinda lame too.... Lets face it. They take horrible obscure or grotesque ideas and pawn them off as art or originality.

Is this from the comic book? where did you get this?

I stopped reading the comic book after it got all confusing and lame. I liked the "fatal attractions" series. I thought it was some of the best writing ever...
When Wolverine gets his adamantium pulled out of him by Magneto.
I lost interest shortly after that....I think thats when that "age of apocalypse" series started and everyone was different and there was this whole new alternate universe or something???
