goldenchild17 Posted January 30, 2005 Posted January 30, 2005
Bodily mortifications? Whoa. Is that what they call it? I'm not even trying to sustain myself on the eucharist yet.
hehe, it'll be awhile before I try that one

MilesChristi Posted January 30, 2005 Posted January 30, 2005 I always get excited about Lent. It's a time of incredible graces and a really great opportunity to mature in our relationships with the Lord. The problem is that it's easy to take on too much in our eagerness. I think it's better to start out with a few things that are challenging but which we'll be able to stick with for the duration. It feels horrible to take on too much to begin with and then break down halfway through the season. I'll try to start with a foundation of a couple things. As Lent progresses, I'll gradually add more penances as my soul becomes ready and if the Lord gives me the graces for it. May God bless each of you as He calls us again to be with Him in the desert!
jimbo Posted January 30, 2005 Posted January 30, 2005 I'm going to walk the two miles to school every day, instead of hitching a ride with mom.

the_rev Posted January 30, 2005 Posted January 30, 2005 I was thinking about doing the following. 1. Not spending my pay checks, putting away 90% of the check of my pilgimage this summer, and give 10% to the parish, strictly relying on my lunch money for survival. Since I will fast from lunch on Fridays, that will lead me with an extra two dollars a week for spending. 2. Pray the LOTH in the morning and evening 3. Pray the rosary once a day. 4. Pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet daily 5. Incorrporate the fifteen prayers of St. Bridget daily. I will also be giving up soda, and drinking milk, juice and water. I will give up watching Prime Time TV and watch EWTN if allowed by my grandmother and mother.

shelly_freak Posted January 30, 2005 Posted January 30, 2005 I'm going on a simplistic diet. In other words, eating just what i need to keep me alive. Veggies, oatmeal, apples, yogurt will be my staple foods. I've been trying to eat healthier but for lent I'm really limiting myself.
