JP2Iloveyou Posted February 27, 2005 Posted February 27, 2005 I am already advocating a boycott of the Oscars on ABC. As of right now, I am officially advocating a boycott of NBC as well. http://www.catholicleague.org/05press_rele...50224_nbctv.htm On second thought, I am advocating a boycott of the Simpsons in addition. Now they are coming out with some episode very sympathetic to the homosexual movement. Entertainment is nothing but trash anymore. I wouldn't even own a T.V. if it weren't for EWTN and ESPN.
azaelia Posted February 27, 2005 Posted February 27, 2005 I never watch those network channels anyway. I do, however, watch VH1
curtins Posted February 28, 2005 Posted February 28, 2005 i like history channel and food network and cops on fx and some of those other good movies they have on fx tbs and tnt and i watch baseball and 24 on fox and the occasional basketball game on espn
HomeTeamFamily Posted February 28, 2005 Posted February 28, 2005 sweet, so by not watching something i would normally not watch, im doing something positive!?!? haha
Brother Adam Posted February 28, 2005 Posted February 28, 2005 The Simpsons is the best TV show that has ever come out on TV. They reflect what is seen in society well. Because they have an episode that is sympathetic of homosexuality does not mean they take a stance on it. They have had pro-Christian and anti-Christian, pro-republican and anti-republican. I own all 5 seasons and will keep buying them as they come out. And I'm not about to boycott NBC. They show Law and Order.
shelly_freak Posted February 28, 2005 Posted February 28, 2005 Sorry I have to agree with Adam. Why should I boycott it cause some other show on the channel does something that's kinda offensive? You don't boycott every channel that shows half naked girls or swears or shows violence. In an ideal world no one would ever be offended by something someone else does but the fact is it happens, deal with it.
lilac_angel Posted February 28, 2005 Posted February 28, 2005
I wouldn't even own a T.V. if it weren't for EWTN and ESPN.
You can watch EWTN online... pretty nice.

Brother Adam Posted February 28, 2005 Posted February 28, 2005 We live in the world and cannot expect the world to act how we want them to. We can be witnesses and lights though.

As far as the simpsons, they used to be fun to watch, not worth a second thought anymore. If ther eis a need for a reflection of society, there ar emore vicil ways to go about it. JP2Iloveyou Posted February 28, 2005 Author Posted February 28, 2005 One of my best friends, a priest who I credit with helping me find my vocation, once gave a homily on why the Simpsons, Titanic, Friends, Southpark, and a fwe other things are wrong to watch. He made a great point about the Simpsons. He said that it is a show that glorifies drunkenness and uses humor that makes fun of and ridicules others. That is why I find it offensive and I will not watch it.
MichaelFilo Posted February 28, 2005 Posted February 28, 2005
lets just boycott the world! sounds fun
Well,
"Christians do not differ from other men as to habitat, language or custom. They live among Greeks and barbarians, wherever destiny has put them. They follow local custom in garb and diet and other matters. But their way of life is nonetheless strange and unbelievable to many. They live in their native land, but as sojourners; as citizens they share everything with their fellowmen, yet they are treated as alien; any alien country is homeland to them, and every homeland an alien country. They marry as men do and beget children, but they do not practice abortion. They share tables but not beds. They live in the flesh but not according to the flesh. They dwell on earth but regard heaven as their city. They follow established law but in their way of life, go beyond what the law requires. They love all and everybody persecutes them. No one knows them, while all condemn them; they are put to death and still are very much alive. To put it all briefly: What the soul is to the body, Christians are to the world. The soul is present in all the body's members; so are Christians in the world's cities. The soul dwells in the body but does not originate from it; Christians live in the world but do not have their origin there. The invisible soul abides in the visible body; Christians are seen as living in the world, but their piety is invisible. On the other hand, the body, though it suffers nothing from the soul, hates it and makes war upon it because it cannot enjoy its pleasures in peace; the world suffers nothing from Christians but hates them because they reject its pleasures. The soul loves the flesh and members which hate it; so do Christians love those who hate them. The soul is enclosed in the body but it contains the body; Christians must remain in the world as in a prison, but they contain the world. The immortal soul dwells in a mortal home; Christians are pilgrims in a corruptible world while they look forward to heavenly immortality. God has set them in the world as His sentinels and they may not leave their posts."
Boycotting the world IS an idea. To bad we arne't manichains... or at least we aren't allowed to be... ::grumble grumble:: God bless, Mikey
Brother Adam Posted February 28, 2005 Posted February 28, 2005 And how exactly do you expect to reach anyone when you can't relate to anyone? Sure, Homer is often drunk. But you know what? Homer has also been placed in temptation to cheat on Marge many times - and he never does. He doesn't act on his temptation in any way. There are valuable lessons to take away from the Simpsons that you can use to evangelize.
Ash Wednesday Posted February 28, 2005 Posted February 28, 2005 One of my friends, who isn't even religious, doesn't have a TV. He said "I already have one sewer line going into my house, I don't need another." My boyfriend has some odd satellite cable setup (he's in Europe) and he can watch tons of Catholic channels like EWTN, his parents watch Polish TV, and some other Catholic ones in Italian. There's a channel dedicated to Padre Pio, and the Vatican apparently has their own channel. My ex-boyfriend was obsessed with the Simpsons. They were all he would talk about much of the time, so after I dumped him I couldn't stand them. JP2 I like your sig.
lilac_angel Posted February 28, 2005 Posted February 28, 2005 A channel dedicated to Padre Pio!?!?!?! It sounds like...Heaven...
Ash Wednesday Posted February 28, 2005 Posted February 28, 2005 http://www.teleradiopadrepio.it/ I think this might be it! Hehe... They had some video footage of him saying prayers and blessing people. Gave me goosebumps.
