Catholictothecore Posted March 13, 2005 Author Posted March 13, 2005 what were we talking about before? Oh, any body have any stories of Mary they want to share.
Catholictothecore Posted March 13, 2005 Author Posted March 13, 2005 ummm... not sure. Just any, I guess. Why is Mary so often pictured in blue? (one of the reason I like OL of Mount Carmel; white and brown)
franciscanheart Posted March 13, 2005 Posted March 13, 2005 oh i know this.... grrrr. the color blue is supposed to represent something but i forget what. and the white is for purity.
myduwigd Posted March 13, 2005 Posted March 13, 2005 heres an awsome story: I used to struggle from general anxiety disorder and still occasionally do; but i started praying the Rosary every day because i was in so much pain. See, i would do normal prayer times every day for like an hour and would go to confession and such, but I just could not kick this anxiety in the butt and i refused to go on pillls. after praying the rosary every day for a summer i finally overcame this anxiety and as long as i keep praying im fine. i give glory to God for giving me the grace to be able to pray as much as i do because i need to so badly. i think of it as not displaying how great a person that i am, but how desperately i need this grace. Somebody loves me!
franciscanheart Posted March 13, 2005 Posted March 13, 2005 pulled from a couple of different sources.... This sky/sea color is associated with depth and stability. In heraldry, it symbolizes piety and sincerity. These ties to stability and earnestness make blue a "conservative" color. It is also commonly used to represent religious feeling, devotion and innocence. Blue was one of the primary colors used to adorn the Tabernacle (see Exodus 26:1). To the Egyptians, blue was used to represent truth. Blue is also considered the color for the spirit and the intellect. Jesus teaches in a blue garment, and the Virgin Mary is usually depicted in a blue mantle, as is the Norse god Odin. Blue is the color of the Virgin Mary, and is associated with girls who have similar pure qualities. In addition, it is the color of water and the sea, with all the symbolic references already discussed for that element - that is, blue usually indicates femininity, life, purity, etc., just as water does.
Catholictothecore Posted March 13, 2005 Author Posted March 13, 2005 thanks! Myduwigtd, that's awesome! Jesus will refuse Mary nothing! cool!

Catholictothecore Posted March 13, 2005 Author Posted March 13, 2005 Anybody ever do the devotion to OL of Seven Sorrows? What are they?
Nicole8223 Posted March 13, 2005 Posted March 13, 2005 Yes, its a beautiful devotion. the seven sorrows are: 1) The Prophesy of Simeon over the Tender Infant Jesus. 2) The Desperate Flight of the Holy Family into Egypt 3) The Loss of the Child Jesus for Three Days. 4) The Sorrowful Meeting of Jesus & Mary Along the Way of The Cross. 5) Mary Watches Her Divine Son Suffer and Die upon the Cross. 6) Jesus is Struck by the Lance of a soldier, Taken Down from the Cross and Placed in His Poor Mother's Arms. 7) Mary Watches as the Body of Her Divine Son is Buried in a Tomb. I forget exactly how you pray them...I think an our father and seven hail marys while meditating on each.
