homeschoolmom Posted April 4, 2005 Posted April 4, 2005 Our parish's senior high group is going on a mission trip to Mexico this summer. And they needed an additional woman chaparone (preferribly one who speaks Spanish)... and well... I said I'd go. and it looks like I'm going. The trip is eight days (the end of July). They're going to teach VBS at an orphanage outside Mexico City. The only time I've been away from my family is when HS_dad has been on business trips or the time that he and I went to Rome for a week. I have never "left" all of them for longer than... well... a weekend. HS_dad will take the week off (so childcare's no issue). I only know two of the men chaparones... I don't know any of the kids or their parents. Honestly, teenagers scare me... and I'm afraid I'll get homesick.
FutureSoror Posted April 4, 2005 Posted April 4, 2005 Awww... teenagers aren't that bad, especially ones going on a mission trip! I hope you have a wonderful time!
voiciblanche Posted April 4, 2005 Posted April 4, 2005 Aaaw... don't be scared, HSMom! We'll all be praying for you...
homeschoolmom Posted April 4, 2005 Author Posted April 4, 2005 Teenages are great (why do you think I hang out here?) But they do this a lot when I say something funny.
the_rev Posted April 4, 2005 Posted April 4, 2005 Leave it to Nathan to bring the truth to the matter.
Smile_Jesus_loves_you Posted April 4, 2005 Posted April 4, 2005 Don't be afriad!! Mexicans are great, they love people and just give yourself and the Holy Spirit will do his job!
Mickey's_Girl Posted April 4, 2005 Posted April 4, 2005 HS MOM! YOU CAN DO IT!!!! :cheer: I would be scared, too (!). But: 1. How GREAT will it be for a MOM (read: grown-up woman with SENSE!) to be chaperoning a trip like that! The girls will be grateful for your presence. 2. A WEEK IN MEXICO! It will be *awesome*! You will learn and experience so much--and your family will benefit! 3. HSDad gets a TASTE OF REALITY!!! (evil grin, rubbing hands together in glee at the thought of him having the kids 24/7) 4. I know what you mean about being homesick--we will pray for you! My favorite JPII saying: BE NOT AFRAID! 5. Your Spanish will get an excellent boost! Brilliant! You go, girl. I'm proud of you for stepping out like that. You can do it! MG
I'm not "scared" as in :freak: .... I really like teenagers. I just sometimes forget that I'm not one... and I don't really have any... I guess the idea of going with a whole bunch of complete strangers (with whom I have very little in common) freaks me out.
Yeah, I was all On a serious-er note. I guess it will be weird. As I said, I only know two other people-- both dads... both much older than I am. The other women chaparones are just graduating college... then there's a nice sized group of high spirited young people half my age. But I'm excited. I know that I will get chances to get to know the others before we go... lots of fundraisers, you know.
crusader1234 Posted April 4, 2005 Posted April 4, 2005 I think you'll do fine. And, to be honest, my friends actually do tell me Mexican bud is almost as good as British Columbia...
