Funeral Mass

I would be willing to bet that the liberals who hate, hate, hate Latin are rueing the funeral Mass.

If Latin doesn't hold pride of place and the verancular is the norm, why oh why is the funeral Mass in Latin and not Italian?

Perhaps it is another misconception perpetrated by the liberals? Methinks that it is.

Cam

Yay Latin.

I personally am no huge fan of the entirely Latin Mass. And yes, I'm old enough to have been an alcolyte for the Latin Masses. But I wish we would do at least some of the prayers in Latin for every Mass. Like the Gloria or the Consencration Prayers, etc. My parish often sings or prays the Lamb of God (Angus Dei) in latin. Everyone knows what misirere nobis means. :D We can have Latin in small doses at every mass and have vernacular too. I don't know why people get so worked up over this and want all or nothing.

Latin's used at many (most) of the major Masses at St. Peter's. I've even seen an American Cardinal celebrate in Latin.

Because the funeral mass was held in Vatican City and not Italy.

God Conquers

What makes more sense?

The normative mass being in 185 languages for 185 different peoples of the Universal Church, or the mass being in ONE language, accessible to all, common to all, for all 185 peoples of the Universal Church?

You know, I wanna see someone who thinks the Mass should be always and completely in the vernacular go to Poland...or better yet, Greece.

It took a lot of patience on Cam's part, but I am now among the converted. Latin should be back in the Mass

No, no, no.....it should be....

CREDO in unum Deum,

Confiteor unum baptisma in remissionem peccatorum. Et exspecto resurrectionem mortuorum. Et vitam ventura saeculi. Amen.

The Church tells us that all the faithful should learn the mass responsories in Latin. It is not that hard. I think most of it should be in English most of the time, but we should all be comfortable with the mass parts in latin so that one these occassions where multiple language groups come together, we can all use latin.
