toledo_jesus Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005
Okay so some priest wasn't doing his job. When dispensing the host one is supposed to make sure the host is consumed if the person doesn't consume it you aer supposed to chase them down. This isn't a failing on ebays part but on the Church's. If we know someone has unconsumed Host which they are trying to sell for a profit then we should get them back, but I don't blame ebay for our failure. Ebay is just doing what captitalist do, unless you are prepared to fight that capitalism( as we have been told to by the Holy See )you shouldn't really complain about Ebay's practices. WE should hav gotten the Host back, either bought them or taken them but lets not blame Ebay for our own multiple failures. It's like blaming a scorpion for stinging you when you touch it, it just is what it is. I hope at least the church bought them.
according to the jerk, he received two hosts from the Holy Father himself. Though not a Catholic, he consumed One and then got back in line. He even claimed the Holy Father gave him a 'dirty look' but I can imagine that after giving Communion to thousands you tend not to remember faces.
jmjtina Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 it's just wierd that e-bay took something down that would offend fat people, but not Catholics. yeah, double standard, but we should call them on the carpet nontheless. Let us pray for our new pope, Our Holy Father, Pope Benedict 16.
Don John of Austria Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 Well it is simple according to the secular humanist establishment we cannot be offended because we are bad.

argent_paladin Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 (edited) 1. Labor of the sun can also be translated "eclipse of the sun" and JP2 was born at the same time as an eclipse and his funeral was at the same time as an eclipse. But the prophecies are just a load of hooey. 2. The priest may have been neglectful, but Ebay has a policy that it doesn't sell things that offend large segments of the population, such as body parts, Nazi paraphenalia, etc. So, we can legitimately cry foul that Ebay ignores the 1100000000 Catholics while paying attention to much smaller interest groups. It is a matter of fairness. 3. "Well it is simple according to the secular humanist establishment we cannot be offended because we are bad." But that is untrue, and we are called to be bearers of the truth. 4. As for capitalism, the Church is very positive toward free-markets, private property, profit, international trade, etc. It is very negative toward socialism. It is fundamentally flawed, unlike capitalism. It is all in Centesimus Annus. Capitalism isn't the problem, but consumerism, an emphasis on having rather than being, barriers to participation, etc. But these are not inevitable consequences of capitalism. But, you don't see eBay doing anything about the selling of those particular relics.
Ash Wednesday Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 I definitely agree that whoever saw him go up twice should have denied him the 2nd time he went up, and told him to go sit down, and that ebay isn't the only one responsible, that this began because of a fault within the Church. The reason why I am alarmed with ebay's policies is where this could lead to. What I find very troublesome is not just a matter of what is offensive. Even from a standpoint of fighting for what is economic justice -- people can very easily buy the unconsecrated hosts and attempt to sell them as consecrated on a regular basis now that this has become an issue, in an attempt to exploit a Catholic's desire to defend what is sacred.
I am afraid you are wrong Capitalism has been condemned many many times by the Church. Leo XIII condemned it explicitly as have numerous other Popes... xocialism has also been condemned as well as communism and numerous other dehumanizing economic systems. That is why many on this board are Distributist, which is a Catholic teaching inspired economic system. Now you are correct in your statement about Private Property but not about the rest of Capitalism. As for being Catholics being bad, being untrue well unfortunatly Secular Humanist have rarely cared about the truth if the cared about the truth they'd be Catholic. As for ebay being unfair well they are a company made for profit, being fair is not profitable. Edited April 20, 2005 by Don John of Austria
