Awesome, Awesome, Awesome :D

They bring the Church's tradition to today's world. They are solid, authentic, and beautiful. Don't let anyone tell you that they're overboard or ultra-conservative.

I havent looked at the sites (excuse me for not doing so) but thats because I dont need to. The Legion are of God, from God and oriented towards God. They're one of the best things that has happened to the Church in our times and will spearhead the New Evangelisation in the face of the dictatorship of relativism.

Um, I love the daily reflections by Regnum Christi :)

I don't know. After reading some of the comments from former members they sound more like a cult to me. I don't think we can just outright dismiss the testimony of those who claimed to have been abused and mistreated.

The Legion is simply the work of God in the world today. Anything that is the work of God will recieve tons of persecution. Why be suprised that there is opposition. We forget that Satin is out there trying to destroy Christ's kingdom.

They just started renting the former convent at our parish. I wonder if they'll mingle with us so we can get to know them better.

I've got quite a bit of experience with the regnum christi movement . Before I say anything else, let me say that every single one of the legionaries that I have met, or that anyone i know has met, has been an awesome God-filled man and priest.

Other than that I have a very mixed sort of approval of Regnum Christi, the movement. Approval definitely. I first heard of them when my sister and i went on a retreat in Rome with them 10 years ago. The people at the house in Rome were wonderful; you could see the Holy Spirit radiate through them. My sister was so moved that she discerned to be consecrated that summer.

That's where the mixed review comes in. She decided to join and last minute they decided that she wouldn't be a good consecrated. While I have no problem with that, they basically said, "pack and leave." from that experience and others that I've either witnessed or experienced, I understand Regnum Christi to be a very holy movement, but a little too driven for their own good. I understand this to be particularly a problem in the US branch. It's understandable as it is a young and enthusiastic movement openly seeking for people with leadership qualities (and overlooking people without those qualities) because they want to form the future leaders in hopes that those people will then transform society. I've had 2 friends who were co-workers (not discerning): one said that the pressure to join as a legionary was extreme, while the other said that the focus was really on forming co-workers to be great spouses and citizens.

I think it's like Regnum Christi is a teenage movement - filled with energy and passion, but not that mature yet.

Nathanael my nephew just wandered in and said "Hi!" and "Yo-ho-ho and a bottle of rum" (he's 5 years old)

The Legion and Regnum Christi are 100% faithful to the Magisterium, and definitely are trying their best to carry out the plan God has entrusted to them. Sure, they are persecuted for many things they do, but persecution is part of being faithful. The constitutions for both the Legion and Regnum Christi were both personaly approved of by Pope John Paul II, which includes the details of how everything works within both of them.

The thing that really got me was when I read that Pope John Paul II ordained 40 Legionary priests in Rome. I just stared at the picture of the ordination in "Christ is My Life" for a really really long time. They were definitely in the heart of John Paul II.

Yes, get to know them. THey really are some of the most awsome men that I know. I had a chance to do an 8 day Spiritual Exercise with them and I was albe to grow and learn so much about myself and the church during that time.

Rev, I think it is awsome that you think you may have a calling to the Legion. You have my prayers and support.

I think they're wonderful, and I've met a bunch of Legionnaries (my brother was with them for over half a year). I don't know that many Regnum Christi members. I think that they can have a bit too much of a focus on recruiting, especially if that is the focus. They visited our house regularly when they thought my brother might join, and they haven't visited since. But... that makes sense, since the reason they were visiting was to help him in the discernment process. They're really big on individual holiness, which I suppose could seem to make it cultish. I think that the charges of abuse have to be seriously investigated; leaving them hanging is the worst thing that can be done to the legion.

The charges of abuse have been seriously investigated, and dismissed by the Vatican.

Also,
"The good name of Father Maciel and the Legion was cleared by a thorough Vatican investigation more than forty years ago.

From 1956-1958, Father Maciel and the Legion underwent a thorough, two and a half-year investigation. The investigators were sent to live with the Legionaries and interview each member personally under oath. Bishop Polidoro Van Vlierberghe, OFM, one of these Vatican-appointed investigators, concluded: "In the process of investigating the charges against Father Maciel, the Apostolic Visitators questioned every member of the Legion. That questioning was direct and probing. Our interest was either to prove or disprove the charges against Fr. Maciel conclusively, once and for all. At no point in our extensive and searching interviews about the character and deeds of Father Maciel did a single allegation of sexual impropriety ever surface." This is particularly important because neither the men currently accusing Father Maciel, then aged 17-24, nor anyone else alleged such misconduct during the investigation. This 1956-1958 investigation found no aspect whatsoever of Father Maciel's behavior to be contrary to Christian morals." well, almost everyone here seems to like the legion, and please don't take this to offence, but im not so sure about them. my brother and uncle used to go on retreats and such with them, and to be honest, they look down upon married people and consider themselves superior to people who are unmarried or married, and they told this to my brother and the group he was with. many people i know, who are die hard catholics, say that the legion is like a cult. now i dont know how accurate the cult thing is, and if i have offended anyone i apologize.

im more of a fransiscan friar girl myself.

i will share one story about them take it for what it's worth

a friend of mine was trying to discern whether he was called to the priesthood and a member of the legion of Christ called him to talk to him and by the end of the conversation he was told "you're called to be a priest and if you don't become one you'll go to hell" well that was the end of his discernment (he's now married) but when he mentioned this to his spiritual director (who is a priest) his director told him he got the same phone call when he was discerning.

these are the only two people i know personally who have had any contact with them...

I don't know enough (actually anything) about them to comment.

But what I would like to say, with some past experience is watch for "signals."

How do they treat each other?
Are the truly Christ-like to each other?
Are they whole, spiritually, emotionally, physically, morally?
Is the atmosphere realistic? Are they FULLY human, do they
laugh, cry and occasionally get angry with each other?
Are they allowed or encouraged to express and discover
who they are, without repercussions?

These are a few signs of a good community.
No matter what their name is?

I had to find this out the hard way.

ps. when I was in community I was told by one of the sisters that God revealed to her that she should tell me "that if you truly love God as proof of this you will kill yourself. God realizes He made a mistake when He made you."

I left after a year, her (years later) is still there. :scratchhead:

Just please be careful.

That is seriously messed up and a definite sign of cult-like behavior. Was the "sister" reported? After all, it is scandalous that she would suggest someone commit a serious sin, which suicide is. She should be defrocked and excommunicated.

my brother just told me that with the legionares there was a kid that wanted to leave, but they wouldn't let him. they had to bring in the police to go and get the kid out...i don't know how true it is, but my brother used to go with the legionares like i said before. but apparently they do show cult like behavior.

I don't think anybody should say anything scandalous of any movement whatsoever until they have definite proof. Until then it's rubbish.

All these bad things that are said about the Legion, are in my opinion more than highly doubtful. I've discerned with Regnum Christi and if it wasn't for them, I wouldn't be so deep in my faith right now. They are NOT a cult. Would a movement that is so close to the Pope be a cult? And the Pope would not approve of a cult, I think you've forgotten about that.

ofpheritup, what community was that?
