my friend bonnie plays the mandolin she's really good. she yodels (sp?) and of course sings like a star. she plays guitar too and i think was learning piano. i think she also said she can play bango. maybe that was her dad. anyway they're in a bluegrass band together. its her and her dad and her stepmom. its cool....


anyway.... i didnt pick up my guitar all weekend!! i was a bad bad kid. oh well... ill practice today.

if you can play guitar you can pick up the mandalin and play alot of chords.....IF you take the bottom four string of your guitar and play any chord upside down on the mandolin..its the same chord...takes alittle thinking but it makes you look cool when you just pick it up and start playing like you're a pro

a good friend of mine taught me to play mandolin in like 10 minutes on the beach b/c I didnt have my guitar and we wanted to jam....so i had to rock out with the mandolin...it wa quite funny....

wow laura, i think i might have gone this weekend without playing too!!! that is terrible!!! i almost never go a day without playing...but a weekend??? but i got to play at a Mass on friday night!!! that was sweet!

I started out playing the banjo. I took it for two years (and was very good) then I read an article that said that "the number one attraction for women were guitarists that wrote love songs"

I picked up the guitar the next week and never looked back. I got my minor in guitar and have played professionally on and off for years. For a couple of years it was my full time job.


BTW the thing about women? It didn't work!

i definitely am really attracted to a guy who can play the guitar and sing. also if they can play the piano. *heart thumps loudly* its really cute. being a music girl myself its hard to resist a guy that knows how to play or sing. (Singing is a big thing in my book!!)

and honestly, if he cant sing, even just playing gets me every time.

guitar players are cuties haha and yeah ive been guilty of seeing a guy play and like drooling all over myself and then asking him what his name was etc. im a bad bad girl. oh well. i meet guys at church now but my attractiong to guitars and pianos and singing will NEVER go away!! haha!!

Mandolin may be easy for chords, but it isn't that simple when playing complicated traditional music. I play banjo, bodhran, violin, mandolin and dabble in a few others

it's terrible!!! my girlfriend always tries to get me to play and sing for her...oh man, so embarrassing. i can play guitar pretty well, not nervous at all. but i just don't have a good voice and it is really hard to sing for her. i would like to be able to sing for her, but lack of vocal quality keeps me. it is really better that way. hehe. i know better than to ruin this by singing for her but she is really good about it.

yeah well i have a voice and ive been trained classically since i was six. i get really nervous singing for other people. the only person i think ive ever shown my whole voice to is my voice teacher of three years now and to my choir director who snuck in the room while i was 'belting' a note. it wasnt belting but i really let go of this one and it was such a big step and because it was so big and loud and HIGH for me i call it 'belting'. lol.

anyway i get really choked up when i have to sing for people too, especially people i really want to impress. i like croak and cant seem to grab onto my clarity. i just sound like a smoker. haha. its terrible. in time i hope to be able to sing with confidence in front of anyone or at least not be QUITE as nervous as i am now. i shake and get short of breath which is something you DONT want when youre singing. haha.


anyway... back to guitars. im learned this bass line to this song haha i should know the name i know but i really like it. its fun and easy.

anyway practiced some more today. my dad really has to learn to let me mess up and keep practicing with out trying it out himself. he really discourages me when he does that. i told him that tonight and he looked really sad so i told him it was okay, tried it again, and gave him a shot at it. he's been really good at encouraging me today.

I taught myself, but I was blessed to have a lot of friends who play. The best way for me to learn was to play along with them. They wouldn't slow down or anything, and it forced me to keep up and learn the transitions. Do you have any friends who you could play along with?

i have a few friends that play. none that live close to me. the only person i know really that plays and lives close is my youth minister but i dont go to youth group anymore. not really.

it's a great stress reliever-if you have come home from a bad day, you can just take it out and strum away. I usually spend most of my day in my room playing music

Amen to that! especially playing praise/worship music for me....God has used to it set me free from many a temptation and hard times. music has an amazing power, but combined with beautiful songs to our Lord...wow!! i had my practice tonight for youth group. went pretty well when we were actually practicing! hehe. it is such a joy to play the guitar!
