Sorry, you just defeated your own argument.

Yes, subject to stringent objective scientific testing and analysis. And the discovery of a fossil does not invalidate evolution the same way some argue a fossil might prove it. Nothing is certain, but with the evidence we have, and the combined power of our rational minds, evolution is the most plausible and realistic theory we know. Creation is just bullocks at the end of the day.
philothea Posted July 3, 2005 Posted July 3, 2005 Modern science doesn't hold Darwinian evolution to be true, and hasn't for decades. You might want to attempt debunking current theory, before getting too excited. I haven't read much (I don't find the field very interesting) but AFAIK, the current frontrunner theory of the development of life on earth is called "Punctuated Equilibrium" wherein major changes occur because of "Mass Extinction Events." After each event, most species are killed off, the few survivors mutate wildly, the lifeforms suitable for the current climate survive, and the rest die off. This model is supported by fossil evidence -- that's how it was developed. It's also supported by some empirical evidence: after the Tuguska impact, the local plants mutated in lots of strange ways. Just saying, if you want to debunk something, please address the modern theory.

As far as I know the mutations that occurred to the vegetation in the Tunguska region were related to radiation from the blast, but to the best of my knowledge no new plant species resulted from the incident.

Agreed. But the climate of the earth didn't change after that event, except locally, for a short while. In theory, if there had been a major climatic change, one or more of the mutations might have surived, after having come into sudden existence. (I'm really not defending or promoting a theory, just updating people on the current state of things!)
Apotheoun Posted July 3, 2005 Posted July 3, 2005
Agreed.
Agreed, the climate of the earth didn't change, but I hardly see how the Tunguska event can be used as a "proof" of transspecific speciation, since it didn't result in that outcome. The most that it proves is that intense radiation can cause mutations in living matter, but we already know that.
Brother Adam Posted July 3, 2005 Posted July 3, 2005 Which is why I'm not too excited about the show on EWTN myself - theories do change and most evolutionists no longer accept darwins theories totally. But that is another reason I'm far more prone to creationism - scientific theories constantily are revised and updated, sometimes changing dramatically, black to white. The current 'say-so' of the day may lead one to believe Genesis is a fairy tale, but in 50 years we could be back to the prevailing attitudes that Genesis likely happened. I also believe the evidence for creationism is pretty strong because what they have developed so far, over time, has stayed the same. They don't keep flipping their ideas around like evolutionists do. And while they don't have solid proof for everything yet, its interesting as more research is done, some of what they logically thought was true ends up proving to be right. ... And yes, Micah is right, I have no way to watch EWTN, but I have seen it a few times, I actually don't like the station all that much. Not that I think it is a bad station, just not for me. Most of the shows are produced very poorly.

At least it's orthodox...and if you can look past some of the crappy sets and such, it's great.
Brother Adam Posted July 3, 2005 Posted July 3, 2005 Maybe, but the network is still targeted at a particular variety of Catholics which I am not one. I'm not saying it is bad TV.

Paladin D Posted July 9, 2005 Posted July 9, 2005 I can only watch EWTN on the net, and I enjoy it. Programs such as The Journey Home, Fr. Corapi, Life Is Worth Living, and a few others are pretty good.
Theoketos Posted July 9, 2005 Posted July 9, 2005
no EWTN
They will put it online.
