Man, that was awesome. I have a feeling Bishop Kevin is gonna be a really good bishop.

Also, I ran into Fr John, Fr Leo and Fr Benedict Groeschel of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal there.. and... none other than phatmass' own J.R.D.!!!

The highlight of my night!

I'll be honest, I didn't care for it very much and was upset (and distracted). But that's probably my fault. :(

Why is that? Other than the three cellphones going off within a few rows of me, it was cool. I would have preferred a cathedral though. The sound guy wasn't very good as I could barely hear anything, but hey... a bishop was ordained! I don't get to see that very often.

The free food afterwords helped too.

I woulda preferred not the multi-lingual...to me it felt as though it were a show. Plus, 90% of the music was from after 1995, not to mention that not a single Latin word was used. This isn't to say anything against our Bishop, but rather the Bishop's office, which I don't get along with to well. :(

I feel ya.

I wouldn't be a bit offended if he hired all new staff, including the entire youth office. :o

I knew him as Fr. Kevin Vann. I met him in St. Peter's square of all places and then walked with him early in the morning into the basillica. We offered Mass together on the altar of St. Leo the Great on the feast of Ss. Cosmas and Damian. It was an awesome experience. I was their on vacation and he was their with a group from Springfield, IL, his original diocese.

Amazing the connections we can obtain through our faith. (Physical and spiritual)

Text of Bishop Kevin Vann's remarks at ordination ceremony

"One of the prayers of Sacred Scripture that has been one of my favorites for many years has been Psalm 116: "How can I repay the LORD for all the good done for me?"

It is a response of thanksgiving to the faithfulness of God to us. It is this word of God that often speaks to me when I pray the Liturgy of the Hours. That is why I chose it for today. And, I believe it can be a prayer for all of us here today.

Gathered here, above all, we thank the Lord for the life, leadership and shepherding of Bishop Delaney, a faithful servant of Jesus Christ. I am truly grateful to God for the Bishop's friendship and guidance these past months. I was truly looking forward to his mentoring and guidance in the months and years ahead. But now his example will help me, and the reality of the Communion of Saints and the call of Our Lord to live with him in Eternity, reminds us that Bishop Delaney is still with us.

Perhaps we should pray:

Eternal Rest Grant unto Him O Lord,
And let perpetual light shine upon Him.
May His soul, and the souls of all of the
Faithful departed, through the mercy of God
Rest in Peace, Amen.

Trying to remember everyone to thank is a risk to be sure. But I thank the Lord for all gathered here today in this Eucharistic celebration, especially everyone involved in making this day a celebration of Faith: all from the Catholic Center here in Fort Worth, the Ordination committee itself, those present from our Catholic schools and Catholic education endeavors; all who have worked so hard to welcome visitors, friends from all walks of life and all Faiths, my most recent and former parishioners and family. Thanks to all who have prepared and sang today and last night -- all of the choirs, instrumentalists and musicians. To all ministers of the Liturgy and the Masters of Ceremonies -- thank you for your direction and gentle push -- not an enviable task. Ask anyone who has tried to help me with this in the past, especially my parochial vicars!

A thanks with all of my heart for the presence of my brother priests and bishops present here today: from Fort Worth, Springfield, Kenrick Seminary and the North American College classmates; priest and bishop friends and coworkers from near and far who have given me a great example of Faith. A special word of thanks must go to Msgr. Joseph Schumacher and Fr. Robert Wilson for their kindness to me, and their dedication to this local Church. In the absence of Bishop Delaney, I now more than ever count on their leadership and advice in this time.

To all leadership and faithful, I thank you for your love and prayers. To all civic leaders of North Texas, thank you for your leadership and presence here. We could not have done this without TCU, and the use of this great facility and their staff. Thanks to the media present here. Your coverage today and in the past few days has been very much appreciated.

The Knights of Columbus, the Knights and Ladies of the Holy Sepulchre, the Knights and Ladies of St. Peter Claver are witnesses to the universality of the Church. The Serra Club deserve of word of thanks for their encouragement of priestly vocations, and for their service in these days.

I am especially grateful to Archbishop Montalvo who honors us with his presence, who represents the Holy Father to us, and who has been a real help to me in these past months.

A very heartfelt thanks to the Bishops of Texas, who have welcomed me as a true co-worker and brother in the Lord -- most especially Archbishop Gomez for his friendship and guidance. To the many deacons of this Diocese and elsewhere and their families, thank you for your ministry of the Word and Charity.

Thank you to all of the religious men and women here present, whose consecrated lives give witness to the love of Christ for all. A most heart-felt thanks to those who have journeyed from Springfield: the Hospital Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis, the Springfield Dominican Sisters and Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart Ad Gentes.

I wish to, in a most special way, acknowledge my family, my brothers, sisters, sisters-in-law, and relatives here today -- and my mother and father, who have just celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. Thank you for all you have done for me, and given to each of us.

I thank the Lord for the Church of Springfield that helped me to grow in faith, especially Bishop George Lucas for his leadership and faithful friendship, and for the Church of Fort Worth, for your lives and work, and witness to the faith for many years, and for the new family and home you are to me now. The Adjudicatory Heads of other communities of faith here in Fort Worth honor us by their presence, leadership and example.

In the Gospel for today, Jesus says to Peter, "Do you love me?" Peter says, "Lord you know that I love you." Jesus replies, "Then, follow me."

That conversation between Our Lord and his first vicar echoes through the ages and becomes a framework for our -- all of our lives. As we say "Lord you know that I love you" we seek to follow Him always, to hear his voice in those who cross our paths in their search for God.

We have heard "Come follow me" in the life of Pope John Paul II, and now Pope Benedict XVI. "Come follow me" and "Lord, you know that I love you" are the words of Our Lord that have brought me here, and they are the words for all here today.

I thank God for all of you. Let us pray together that as we seek the will of God, we may live lives of holiness, virtue, truth, justice and love.

Change for any of us is never easy. If I have learned nothing else from being a pastor in a number of parishes, I have learned that.

This is especially true for us with the death of Bishop Delaney. How we are beginning now had not been my plan, nor that of Bishop Delaney, or many of us. But this is the moment the Lord has given us.

My hope and prayer, then, in the days ahead is simply to grow in knowledge and love of the church here in Fort Worth, to appreciate even more this heritage of faith, and to be able to do that with your love and prayers.

In this year of the Eucharist, let us all turn to our Lord, present in this great sacrament of love, for His consolation and strength. I look forward to leading the body of Christ in this greatest prayer of all. For now, that would be my only hope, wish, and program.

Thank you and God bless you each and every one of you always. I would continue to ask for your prayers, and especially for the intercession of our Lady of Guadalupe, Mother of the Americas."

Yikes, I'm glad I was late. I'm sorry, but girls make me feel weird inside, especially since I (a guy) was told I couldn't serve. :(

Our Bishop seems really nice though. :) One of the guys from my parish was talking to his parochial vicar (?) from Springfield last night and mentioned the fact that we cannot have Perpetual Adoration, and the Priest said that he should mention that to the Bishop. ;)

If the line wasn't so long last night I would have. I had my speech ready...

"Hello Mr Bishop, welcome to TX. I represent all of the cool Catholics of the diocese and would just like to say that we hope you brought lots of orthodoxy and adoration along with you. We need it. Thank you sir, and goodbye for now."

Our diocese is getting a new bishop, I am going to ask my priest if I can go with him.

Our diocese just got a new Bishop on May 31st.....I went to the Installation Mass and it was AWESOME!!!

Then we had ordinations about three weeks later and I went to that too. That's where I got to meet the new bishop and actually talk to him for a few minutes (and get the book I have that he wrote autographed!) I hope he brings more orthodoxy here!!! So far he seems awesome!

I was probably talking to someone. I didn't get in line until after I met Fr. Benedict and talked some with Fr. John Anthony. I dunno if you know Angela Walters (CRL), but I was 5 people in front of her.
