It is no longer mandatory for military members to get the Anthrax shot prior to deployment. It is now optional.

I heard it's a pain in the butt. (no the shot is not in the butt)
Should I go through with it??

Is it safe? If so, why not?

I asked my husband and he said he'd probably get it if he were in your shoes. Its a tough decision, though.

Oh, gosh! I thought you meant 90% chance of surviving the shot! Like there's a ten percent chance the shot would kill you... You scared me.

what are the risks involved in getting the shot?

Posted

Didn't they use aborted babies to develop the shot?

Posted

Are there any side effects?

like i said severe burning sensation.

like other vaccines anthrax vaccine may cause soreness, itching and swelling at the injection site.

up to 30% of menand 60% of women report small local reactions, but these reactions usually last only a few ddays. A lump at the site occurs commonly, up to 50% of the time, lasting for a few weeks.

larger injection-site reactionsoccur in about 1% to 4% of vaccinees.

Beyond the injection site, 5% to 35% may notice such symptoms as muscle or joint aches, headaches, rashes, chills, low-grade fever or nausea. These symptoms usually go away in less than a week.

Any vaccine, like any prescription drug, can cause serious reactions including those requiring hospitalization or medical care. Sever allergic reactions occur less than once per 100,000 doses.

Way cool, I didn't know it was optional now.
What are they going to do about all those guys they kicked out for not getting it?
My hubby had the injections when he went to Saudi, he said they felt pretty sore, but that was his only problem.
The thing is, once you get the shot you have to keep getting them, untill you've finished a round of like 6 total, or you have to start back all over again next time you need it.
