I Witnessed An Abortion

No, not me. A medical student. Here's her account:
After the counseling sessions, I got to watch my attending do some procedures, or surgical abortions. I wasn't sure how I felt about this at first. But it is fascinating. [Warning: some graphic details to follow. Of course. I love uteri, remember?] Really it's just inserting a vacuum device into the woman's cervix and sucking out all the contents of the uterus. First the cervix is numbed up with some lidocaine and another drug that constricts blood vessels so that there's less bleeding. Then her cervix is dilated (how much depends on how far along she is) with these metal rod-dy things. Then a plastic tube attached to the vacuum device is placed in her uterus, the vacuum is turned on, and then the tube is moved back and forth while rotating it to smell of elderberries it all out. Then an ultrasound is done through the vagina to make sure the gestational sac is gone. THEN we looked at what was sucked out after they wash out the blood and strain it. The first patient I saw was at 11 weeks and some days. I completely wasn't expecting it, but there were fetal parts. Like hands. And legs. And kidneys. It was pretty shocking. But, of course, after the initial shock, I was fine. I was actually fascinated by it. Until I saw one with a face. Complete with eyeballs. Told you it was graphic. It's amazing to think that all of this can form within only a couple of weeks. You go from someone who's only about 7 weeks along, and you can't make out anything, to someone who's at 9 weeks, and oh, there are some fingers. The human body is amazing. Apparently, at some point this month, I'll be doing the abortions. Still not sure how I feel about it. From the doctor side of it, I'm absolutely thrilled because it's more experience. From the personal side of it, I'm really not sure. It's hard to say because now that I can I have some medical background, I have to assimilate that with how I feel. Will have to think about that some more.

An interesting response from another blog:
Dr. Robert J. Lifton writes on Page 442 of the online book The Nazi Doctors: Medical Killing and the Psychology of Genocide that the murderous doctors at Auschwitz underwent a form of detachment that sounds chillingly similar:
The Auschwitz self depended upon radically diminished feeling, upon one’s not experiencing psychologically what one was doing. I have called that state "psychic numbing," a general category of diminished capacity or inclination to feel. Psychic numbing involves an interruption in psychic action—in the continuous creation and re-creation of images and forms that constitutes the symbolizing or "formative process" characteristic of human mental life. Psychic numbing varies greatly in degree, from everyday blocking of excessive stimuli to extreme manifestations in response to death-saturated environments. But it is probably impossible to kill another human being without numbing oneself toward that victim.

The Auschwitz self also called upon the related mechanism of “derealization,” of divesting oneself from the actuality of what one is part of not experiencing it as real (That absence of actuality in regard to the killing was not inconsistent with an awareness of the killing policy — that is, of the Final Solution.) Still another pattern is that of disavowal or the rejection of what one actually perceives and of its meaning. Disavowal and derealization overlap and are both aspects of the overall numbing process. The key function of numbing in the Auschwitz self is the avoidance of feelings of guilt when one is involved in killing. The Auschwitz self can then engage in medicalized killing an ultimate form of numbed violence....

In discussing patterns of diminished feeling, Ernst B. told me that it was the "key" to understanding what happened in Auschwitz. In also pointing out that "one could react like a normal human being in Auschwitz only for the first few hours," he was talking about how anyone entering the place was almost immediately enveloped in a blanket of numbing. And there was similar significance to the prisoner doctor Magda V.'s rhetorical question: "I mean, how can you understand the horror of it all?"
How can any of us understand the horror of it all? How can anyone comprehend what legalized abortion has done to the American mind—training people to believe that human life is utterly dispensable? What kind of a world are we creating for our children when an abortion-drug manufacturer, in attempting to repair its image after reports of mounting patient deaths, boasts that its product has killed 460,000 children?

Think about those things while you ponder what's to become of the Supreme Court. Contact your senators and your representative to tell them how you feel. And if you want to join those who support the president's nominee, contact groups such as The American Center for Law and Justice and National Right to Life.

When we create a world where a medical student is as "thrilled" to see a dead child's face as an eighth-grader would be to dissect a frog, something is very, very wrong.

A doctor 'assimilating' her duties with how 'she feels'?

Typical libera lBS BS BS BS whrer right and wrong is determined by someone's feelings and personnal views rather than God inspired Truth...

Wow, killing as "experience".

If she was shocked because it had a face, imagine when the mother is MONTHS pregnant?

Doctor? medicine? :boxer:

I thought doctors were supposed to be providers of healing. How anyone can look down upon a bunch of ripped apart limbs and a dead face, while thinking that they are fulfilling the noble vocation of a doctor is beyond me.

Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy...

This is so very very sad to read. I am very very opposed to abortion and I have seen pictures of a fetus after an abortion. I didn't know whether to become angry or cry. It truely sickens me to thing that people are so reckless with human life. I just want to :sadder: This isn't the way that God intended life to be. Also how this person feels facinated to see a fetus essentally run through a meat grinder and be amazed and see it done again. That is purely sick and wrong! :maddest: :maddest: :maddest:

Would anyone mind if I were to post picutres of aborted fetuses later in here or in another post just to show what this person finds so "facinating"

I did not know that the 'part of a woman that eventually turns into a human' that 'she has full control over' could be considered a 'patient' when it is apparently not 'human'. Is it me or did she just confess she witnessed a murder?
Take a good look at this picture. It's one of the most remarkable photographs ever taken. The tiny hand of a foetus reaches out from a mother's womb to clasp a surgeon's healing finger. It is, by the way, 21 weeks old, an age at which it could still be legally aborted. The tiny hand in the picture above belongs to a baby which is due to be born on December 28. It was taken during an operation in America recently. Paul Harris reports on a medical development in the control of the effects of spina bifida ... and on a picture which will reverberate through the on-going abortion debate here

Your first instinct is to recoil in horror. It looks like a close-up of some terrible accident. And then you notice, in the centre of the photograph, the tiny hand clutching a surgeon's finger.

The baby is literally hanging on for life. For this is one of the most remarkable photographs taken in medicine and a record of one of the world's most extraordinary operations.

It shows a 21-week-old foetus in its mother's womb, about to undergo a spine operation designed to save it from serious brain damage
This is an amazing article and to say that you are facinated by murder is horrific. The rest of this article can be found here. This is truely touching, and I think the picture says enough.

Maybe we should leave her some comments on her blog. We shouldn't be preachy, but perhaps point out that her unease about doing the abortions comes from a concern about the fact that she's seeing how the feti are human with faces, fingers, and organs. We should be careful, but perhaps this is a chance to keep one more doctor from performing abortions.

hi, you dont know me and I dont know you. i just randomly found your post. it's kind of disturbing. correct me if im wrong, but you definitly just saw a container of baby parts. you seemed to have "gotten over" the shock of it. i urge you not to remove the humanity from what you see - not even to cope with what you see. A doctor who doesnt see patients as actually people is not a good doctor.

i will agree completely that fetus's and fetal growth is INCREDIBLY fascinating, but there is nothing fascinating about pieces of a baby in a trashcan/bag/whatever.

No matter what the parent wanted that was someone's child. A person. Do you know someone with a newborn? Can you stand to think of them in pieces

i hope you dont hear this comment as yelling/preaching. im not intending that. im only concerned and sad by your post and for you.

this is real now. pro-choice vs pro-life, life vs death, alive babies vs piles of bodies parts. this is where you are now. Do not forget the reality of your situation. you have many important choices to make very soon in your life. i hope think for a long time about what is truely important in this world.

im praying for ya

there is a HUGE difference between an abortionist and a doctor (she's not even a doctor yet, BUT she'll be allowed to preform an abortion? Do they let a student do a HUGE bi-pass surgery on thier own? HELL NO!!!!) one works to save lives, the other works to destroy lives.

Listen, You NEED to be gentle. Seriously. I don't care how bad you feel towards her but remember that God would lead back with kindness. If you haul off on her then it will only strengthen the view that many people have on pro-lifers.

Say exactly what l337 mentioned. Point out her uneasiness.

I hope that this is not too late.
