[quote name='ofpheritup' date='Jul 25 2005, 08:33 AM']According to you or God? Are you speaking for God now?  :idontknow:

Can you say with any certainty that the time is not now?    Try running that past St. Therese the Little Flower. Some of our greatest saints were young.

I am confused as to why you would attempt to tell another person how to live their life. I'm still not comfortable with your answer.  I see too  much of the world in it.

I had it right the first time when Jesus said "get behind me Satan."  I AM GOING TO PRAY FOR YOU...  and for all the other people I have met who think that God needs them to speak for Him.

I can say with great confidence that Eddie will not be accepted into a seminary today. He is too young

I am not telling anyone how to live their life. Eddie asked our opinion. If he had not asked, I would not have responded.

Nothing that I've said has "the world" in it. Eddie is a faithful kid who desperately wants to be pleasing to God. I applaud him for that. If he finds in the course of his life that he is called to the priesthood and to be a Norbertine, I will applaud him for that as well.

Notice my comments have not been directed to the validity of God speaking to him or not. It has been about his strong desire to make a decision right away.

If he decides to join the Norbertine order today, then what? He waits until he finishes school.

I appreciate your prayers, but you have misunderstood my comments and have made some rather strong assumptions about me. I'd ask you to refrain from that.

Oh and Cathgirl, thanks for the clarification. And no I didn't think you were accusing me of being Satan. ;)

Wow, I'm sorry for causing an argument.

Please forgive me.

hot stuff is correct I really don't have to make a decision for six years. The Norbertines don;'t accept you until you have a college degree. The only decision I'd have to make is if I wanted to go to College Semianry.

Take an example from Mary in regard to your experience.

Luke 2
[19] But Mary kept all these things, pondering them in her heart.

Let me relate to you what I mean. I've told this before. My last little girl was our 8th child. Well three years before she was born, we had a little boy and after we had him we were thinking about slowing down after 4 kid in 5 years. We stopped in to a Catholic store in Fargo to find a book on NFP. The woman there said that she didn't have one because she felt Catholics used it just like birth control. Now my wife, a new Catholic at the time, had developed a liking for a particular blessed named Gianna Berretta Mola of Italy who had lost her life giving birth rather than choosing abortion. She had cancern and knew she would likely die in childbirth. She was even a doctor so new very well the consequences of her decision. This lady running the bookstore had a big poster of Gianna on her window and had a special devotion to her as well. My wife started talking to her about her and she gave her the poster. My wife said if our little boy had been a girl we likely would have named him Gianna. She said "well maybe your next baby will be Gianna". This stuck with me.

Fast forward to fall of 2003. In September we found out we were going to have another baby. Due date, mid may, 2004. Well in January we found out it was going to be a girl. On Feburary 19,2004 the Pope anounced (I'm getting the chils this very moment) that he was going to canonize Blessed GBM on MAY 16TH. Well we had picked Godparents back in november. The woman told us she would likely be in Rome in May. Turns out she left the airport the very moment the baby was being born. 3:30 PM on May 11, 2004 and was at the canonization. Not only that but a month before the birth the doctor who was supposed to deliver the baby told my wife she was going to take a vacation in Rome to go to the canonization in May with her family. She had a special devotion to this saint as well. Turns out our baby was the last one she delivered the day before she left for Rome.

I've told people this story and some have believed it and some not. Does it matter to me what they think about where God is leading me? Not really. What do I make of all of this. I ponder it in my heart and it gives me great strength in the face of finacial difficulties and people's views of our having 8 kids. It helps keep me trusting in God and that he is working in my life. That he is leading me. I can't for certain say what God is saying to you and as was spoken you have a long way to go to be a priest. Just remember what you have experienced, ponder it in your heart and continue trusting that he is leading you and you will end up where you should be.

I did vote yes. He's telling you something. As with Mary time will bear out what that is exactly. Know that it will be good but not without trial.

God bless

I went to a fantabulous college seminary for three years, and it was one of the best things that ever happened to me. It's not for everyone, but God calls people to it. My only thing is that were I you, I wouldn't want to be a financial drag on the diocese (depending on how much aid you would need) if I were seriously considering a vocation to the Norbertines. I'd make sure that the bishop knew that either way is pretty much 50-50 at this point. If he still wanted you to go, then I'd be open to it.

hot stuff, 16 is about the age when they start pressuring you (at least they did me) to figure out what college and what program you wanted. So worrying about it now is appropriate, although it shouldn't be all-consuming.

opheritup, I would be VERY hesitant to call anyone satan in the context of that scripture verse.

Well, I wish God spoke to me in a little more obvious ways than he does. I almost feel like he steps back on purpose, like he wants to see me figure things out for myself. Maybe he's trying to teach me to trust my instincts a little more. <_<
