Honour Posted July 29, 2005 Posted July 29, 2005 Do you ever wonder if constantly contemplating what is considered modest, or imodest makes you more sensitive to people who dress scantily? Not that we shouldn't always keep it in mind for ourselves, but its kinda like when you are say at the mall, shopping for clothes, with fashion on the brain you are more likely to notice others clothes and styles, even comment on them more, And you pay way more attention to appearances than you probably should? Anyone ever feel that way?
Piccoli Fiori JMJ Posted July 29, 2005 Posted July 29, 2005 The tough thing about immodest dress: If you aren't their parents and their parents haven't told them from the beginning, the message of modesty is hard to get people to accept. I know. My friend is this way and she sees no problem whatsoever with how she dresses... low-cut tops to Mass with mini-skirts... nuh-uh... Her mother bought her clothes for her and said nothing about it... not only is she immodest in dress, but speech as well... she can tell some of the most sickening jokes... and guess what the topic is... sexuality. I don't know if anyone in today's world would actually listen to the message of modesty if they weren't brought up on it.
theculturewarrior Posted July 29, 2005 Author Posted July 29, 2005 I apologize to all if I have been sanctimonious on the issue of modesty. I work in a university library, and I am normally not obsessed with modest or immodest dress, but on occassion, it presents a real threat to my relationship with God. I work at a reference desk, so on occassion, I have to answer questions for women who are barely wearing anything. I live in a temperate area, so this is a year-round thing with me. As soon as I graduate, I think I'm moving to Alaska.
