Lil Red Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 Original news story here. I saw this at the Shrine of the Holy Whapping (http://holywhapping.blogspot.com/) Dawn Eden relates this story about a Planned Parenthood chaplain. Planned Parenthood chaplain, Lisa Sargent hands out stones like these for those whom she feels needs them. “I believe in God. I don’t know who he is,” the man answers. With few words, he tells Sargent about his life — a life filled with drugs, a recent overdose. Sargent nods her heard. “I hear ya,” she says... pulling a shiny blue rock out of her pocket and giving it to the man. Her position is rare — one of five within the national Planned Parenthood organization — and seemingly oxymoronic, violating the stereotypical separation of church and choice. In the great political abortion debate, religion falls on the right and abortion on the left. Yet reality is not so simple. Who needs a Chaplain that can bring the Bread of Life when you can have nice, shiny rocks? Matt 7:10 "Which one of you would hand his son a stone when he asks for a loaf of bread, or a snake when he asks for a fish?"
homeschoolmom Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 Whoa... If that's not prophetic...? "Here's a nice shiny rock to play with..." How stupid...
Lil Red Posted July 26, 2005 Author Posted July 26, 2005 the whole news article is rather disturbing, so i chose not to post it here. it really is sickening. this "chaplain" and the others like her need a lot of prayers.
zunshynn Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005
that is sickening. How can she do that?
How can the wealthiest nation in the world allow 4,000 of her most vulnerable citizens be murdered every day in the first place?
Lil Red Posted July 26, 2005 Author Posted July 26, 2005
Planned Parenthood patients visiting the 850 clinics nationwide don’t leave their religion in the waiting rooms, said Sargent, a candidate for ordination with the Unitarian Universalist Association.
well, doesn't it kinda figure? isn't this the "religion" that's voting on whether or not Jesus Christ was divine? or am i thinking of another "religion"?
The other side A chaplain in a Planned Parenthood clinic is the “height of hypocrisy,” said Brian Johnston, executive director of the California ProLife Council. The very idea of a chaplain inside the walls of a Planned Parenthood clinic simply reinforces the idea that abortion is in fact a spiritual issue, he said. The moral qualms involved in abortion are “inescapable,” Johnston said, and the fact Planned Parenthood is using religion to ease those qualms is hypocritical. “It clearly violates the conscience,” he added. On the one hand, the fact that Planned Parenthood recognizes the moral and spiritual aspect of abortion would seem to bolster the anti-abortion argument, seemingly recognizing the loss of life in the procedure. “Chaplains are there because human lives are taken,” Johnston said, referring to the roll chaplains play in hospitals or battlefields. “If this is such a great procedure, why is a chaplain necessary?” he added.
good points from this guy.
Cat Germ Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 (edited) I don't know. But she should be working against it. The way she is working, I guess trying to help those people doesn't help anyone, it just makes it harder to set this right. Edited July 26, 2005 by Cat Germ
MilesChristi Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005
Sargent nods her heard. “I hear ya,” she says... pulling a shiny blue rock out of her pocket and giving it to the man.
It sounds like this woman has lost touch with reality. How on earth is some stupid blue rock supposed to provide comfort? I think she should find a nice commune where she can collect shiny objects and worship the Divine Feminine in peace.
Matt 7:10 "Which one of you would hand his son a stone when he asks for a loaf of bread, or a snake when he asks for a fish?"
Very telling...

In order for her to have lost touch with reality she's had to have had it first. Her blue rock reminds me of a green rock that someone gave me that they said would protect me. When I took a hammer and broke it, I asked the woman who gave it to me "how can it protect me when it can't even protect itself." : Hear that sound ? That is the New Age train derailing.
HomeTeamFamily Posted July 27, 2005 Posted July 27, 2005
I think she should find a nice commune where she can collect shiny objects and worship the Divine Feminine in peace.
i think theres a name for that and it starts with "in" and ends in "sane asylum"
photosynthesis Posted July 27, 2005 Posted July 27, 2005 I bet she makes a really nice salary, with all the money Planned Parenthood is getting from corporations... ugh, this kind of thing makes me sick. people like this need a lot of prayer.

MissScripture Posted July 27, 2005 Posted July 27, 2005
“As a Christian, I believe in a God who loves me unconditionally and who at the same time has expectations of me in the world,” Sargent said.
Umm...wouldn't one of His expectations be that you not throw away His most precious creation?
Guest JeffCR07 Posted July 27, 2005 Posted July 27, 2005
well, doesn't it kinda figure? isn't this the "religion" that's voting on whether or not Jesus Christ was divine? or am i thinking of another "religion"?
Well, remember, we did that too, the difference is that our voting-process was an Ecumenical Council of the Universal Church, protected from doctrinal error by the infallibility of the Holy Spirit :
Didacus Posted July 27, 2005 Posted July 27, 2005 The picture here is that someone is present at the abortion and telling the 'patient' that it is ok in God's eyes to have an abortion. Furhtermore, this person is sanctionned by a 'church', and thus might appear to be an authority on morality. That is false prophetizing if anything (and if that is a word...). For us, this is silly, for others, who choose to have an abortion, I bet they feel very much justified by hearing someone of any church tell them that God thinks its ok. It is a form of propaganda, and I bet a very effective one. The culture of death has found yet a new way of proclaiming itself... makes me want to move to the top of a mountain and seperate myself (and my family) from all that BS until these morons are done killing themselves into extinction.
Brother Adam Posted July 27, 2005 Posted July 27, 2005 I had a unitarian universalist pastor as a philosophy teacher when i was a freshman in college. It was an experience of a different color. All I can say I was one of the few people who left that room as a Christian once the semester was over. He felt it was his job "to teach us why we don't need God or the Church".

Might as well, he was dong the devil's work afterall...
Brother Adam Posted July 27, 2005 Posted July 27, 2005 I'll admit my fundie backround really helped in that class. He asked us to raise our hands at the end of the semester if we were still Christians and myself, the person to my left, and the person to my right raised their hands. He had a disgusted look on his face.
