Ash Wednesday Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 I'm sorry to hear about your petrol shower! Though it did remind me of a funny story when our family all packed in a big ol' station wagon and tripped across the country and at a stop, some guy either forgot to take off the gas cap or topped off the tank and gas was spraying everywhere. The funniest part was my brother snickering and trying sooooo hard not to laugh, and thus we were all trying not to laugh..... I have to admit I like the smell of gasoline. I never said I was normal.
reelguy227 Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 I kind of the like the smell of gas also and I still have yet to understand why people think skunks smell bad ,whats so bad about their smell ? There are worse smells in this world .
Christie_M Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 (edited) yeah like... Edited August 2, 2005 by Christie_M
Andrea348 Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 (edited)
yeah, that's why you should let professional gas pumpers pump your gas, like in new jersey. it is sooooooooo nice to not have to get out of your air conditioned car in the summer to pump gas... or go out into the freezing cold in the winter. jersey rocks.
Amen! New Jersey does rock. Just pull up....roll down your window and say fill it regular please. Gotta love it. And it is some of the cheapest gas in the country also. i love NJ. Edited August 2, 2005 by Andrea348

Honour Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 Gas is dangerous, everybody knows to NEVER GET BACK IN YOUR CAR when pumping gas...right? and don't use your cell phone, and don't smoke, and you should change your clothes if you get gas on them and wash them before you put them in the dryer! Ok...just making sure everyone is safe with gas.
Nicole8223 Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 I ditto the NJ rocking comment. Cheapest gas and you don't even have to pump it. We're spoiled here!! The order of prices is like this: East Coast (with NJ as the cheapest ) Midwest Gulf Coast Rocky Mountain West Coast (with CA as the highest)

This is their concept.....let me prove that something that is reported to happen once in a million could NEVER happen, by recreating it....once. Some of their stuff is good, some is hogwash. Well, even if the verdict is out on cellphones and gas....I'm not going to chance it. If the gas pump says no cellphones, then there must be at least some doubt as to its safety.
reelguy227 Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 Why is myth busters so dumb ? They are awesome ,how could you not like them ?
ReinnieR Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005
yes...and next I will discuss the concept of PRM! LOL
you mean ORM??
ReinnieR Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 i'm gonna go with honour on this. reason being. it's not actually the contact with fluid that will make the gasoline ignite. it's the fumes. gasoline vapors in the air will make the fuel ignite. now smoking a cigarette this i've tested we had a glove full of a gasoline (one of those latex gloves) we tried so hard smoking around it and it never ignited. we even put the cherry of the cigarette in to the fluid and it didn't ignite. then we tried with the lighter that's when the fuel ignited. that's why i don't really care when i smoke 5 feet from the gasoline pumps and i'm not really worried. the cell phone thing a text message or a phone call can give off static electricity. that's why i always put my cell phone in my tool box when i'm replacing a gasoline fuel fiddler. a call from a phatmasser could kill me.
Christie_M Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 well, if you're in the car and come out of it without toughing someting metal first, then touch the pump, you will create static and it will ignite. see? I'm not dumb!
Honour Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005
Why is myth busters so dumb ? They are awesome ,how could you not like them ?
I like some of their stuff...... like the penny droped from the empire state building. They found the terminal velocity of a penny, shot a penny out of an nail gun at that given velocity, and found that at that velocity, the penny will not even break skin, much less kill you. Great experiment. Bad experiement. When they put the dummy standing up in the full washer with the bleach on the counter, and spun the machine to PROVE BEYOND A SHADOW OF A DOUBT that some crazy story about the machine blowing up COULD NEVER HAVE HAPPENED. Obviously there are way too many factors that could have contributed to the accident that they can't recreate, also it could have been a once in a million type thing. They proved nothing. How about the frozen chicken through the windsheild....they totally goofed that one up....they whole experiment was pointless....just so they could shoot frozen chickens at old airplanes. ARGGG. It annoys me.
Honour Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 (edited)
you mean ORM??
I see I will have to disscuss it. ORM= Operation Risk Management PRM= Personal Risk Management Four Principles of ORM 1. Accept no unnescessary risk 2. Make risk decisions at the appropriate level to establish clear accountability 3. Accept risk when benefits outweigh the costs 4. Integrate ORM into Air Force doctrine and planning at all levels. Six Step ORM process: 1. Indentify the hazard 2. Assess the risk 3. Analyze risk control measures 4. Make control decisions 5. Risk control implamentation 6. Supervise and Review. Now I am completly sick of talking about safety. You are right....I am brain washed. Guest T-Bone Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 I used to pump gas. I live in Oregon. Pumping gas is dangerous, and there have been many deaths and injuries associated with people using cell phones and getting into their vehicle while the gasoline is being dispensed. If you fill your fuel tank improperly, you will die! I recommend simply purchasing a new car (with a full tank of gas) every time your tank becomes empty. It's the safest way to do things.
