i just did.... he definitely looks familar, I think he's one of the wackos on TBN. My atheist friend Noah loves making fun of people on Christian TV stations, but he says he can never make fun of EWTN because they're all so humble :)

I am absolutely horrified by the picture of Lakewood Church. It looks like a stadium...

Quantity does not equal quality. Even I, a "Protestant" recognize that Joel Osteen preaches a message of self-help with no emphasis on submitting your life to Christ. The simple reason why he draws so many people in is because his messages allow people to live their lives how they want to without having accountability to God.

More info about Osteen here:

I especially like the following quote (in the linked article) from Osteen, who by the way has never attended seminary:

"The principles in the Bible will work for anybody. If you give you will be blessed. I talk about things for everyday life. I don't get deep and theological.

In my honest and blunt opinion, Joel Osteen is a false prophet.

It's sad, because i'm sure many people see him as a "great Christian preacher" despite his shallowness...

bump....can't anyone defend him? I mean, I don't have much good to say about him, as I think him a charitain.

I didnt know all that about Mr. Olsteen..very interesting point.

I believe he kept saying 'I dont know' to Larry Kings questions because he didnt want to offend anyone.

But you know as well as I that you cannot be a true Christian and make everybody happy. If they were offended by God, they will be offended by you too.

Dust, I love ya bro but I think you missed my point.

Seriously, how awesome would it be to attend a Mass where thousands of people are there and they WANT to be there, and they do it constantly?

It would be like attending a Mass at the Vatican every Sunday.

Or attending World Youth Day every Sunday.

Why do I bring this up?

I dunno. I guess I just feel that the local Parishs at my place may be dropping the ball.

I remember I use to love listening to my Priests homilies because they made me think, and was deep and meaningful.

Now I dont even hear him anymore because we have a Priest that likes to give long homilies that we cant understand because of a thick accent. He's a good Priest, but just cant understand him.

What is so wrong with a Priest getting up there and giving a 'Feel Good' homily anyway?

What is wrong with a Priest actually getting up there and being happy and excited for God and showing it by his actions during the homily?

We dont always have to feel guilty about things in life, and theres alot to feel guilty about. You can have a 'Feel Good' homily with Jesus as the focus.

I used to watch his program on The ABCFamily Channel at times he seems to know what hes talking about. (Bibical Wisdom that is.)

Other times he gets so thrown off from the Bible, and forgets to reference it alot or at times doesn't even know what to look for in the bible about the references to some of the things he speaks off. this point at times makes it look like he doens't know much at all Bible Wise.

He preaches some good points here and there, about living a happy, great, and moral life. and talks about a relationship with Jesus Christ. but at times he doesn't go anymore elaberate into it.
